what about David Gilmour, Andy Latimer, Syd barrett, Gary Green, Adrian Belew, Ry Cooder, Al DiMeola, the Allman brothers, Omar from Mars Volta, Ted Nugent, and Lickerish?

I'm not familiar with all of those people, but out of them I chose to vote for Pete Townsend. His playing in parts is quite simple, but makes it work so well. Much like David Gilmour in that sense

I vote Scott Henderson too - one of thsoe gitarists who would rank in many jazz rock fusion fan's top ten. A point to start for the discerning guitar fan is his Torn Down House, a major rock-soul/blues/jazz fusion guitar album - while Henderson's work with Tribal Tech and Vital Tech Tones has many a jazz critic going weak at the knees
