what do you play? if it's prog, go for BAROQUE
if it's hard or metal, go for MASS ISTERIA
if it's folk or ballads, go for LIGHT
that's what i'd choose today if i had a band. tomorrow it would be something else. you may also correct my if clause, no grammarbook in sight for me here at work.

It would probably be helpful if we could hear the music - you could set up a MySpace page as it doesn't cost anything and you can put up to 4 tracks there.
"Rock" is such a wide and generic term that you could pick a name from Pink Flowers to Black Destroyers and still play it. Political? How about the Bush Whackers? If you're really stuck, try this handy little tool; http://www.bandnamemaker.com/ |

The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Have you composed/ recorded any music yet? Or are you just in the initial jamming stage? Playing in a parent's basement or garage primarily? Been there. Did that in high-school though I'm a crap musician. It's akin to asking someone to name your novel without having had them read any of it, or even knowing what it's about. Do you have any ideas? I mean, creativity can be expected from a band, but I would totally respect someone looking for outside opinions on the names you guys like since a name that fits you is important, but we don't know what suits your style.... However, if your band played Prog I might suggest [The] Fall of the Lief. But your jealous band-mates might cry Treason, assuming your real name is Leif, and at least if they knew Prog which I guess they don't know very well, since to know Prog is to love Prog (you see Fall of the Leaf is a Gryphon song off their Treason album). Of course that might make your band-mates jealous. Or how about Life and Reason (just playing off leifandreas there of course). I once requested that we call a band Acid Enema but was shot down. You're welcome to use it if it fits. That was just high-school amateur band; nothing serious, though the other guys are now all successful professional musicians in rock bands (I was wanted merely as a lyricist and sometime musician, and as a guy who could come up with a cool band name. Sadly, they lost interest in my contribution after that suggestion ). What are the main musical influences on your band? If it's, for instance, Led Zeppelin, you might called yourselves Bloated Blimp. If it's Tool, then Rod. Or whatever... a subtle reference in the name that gives people a feel for your music without coming across as a clone band. I'm sure if you put out some samples (provided you have some) you might get a better idea. The other thing is, why do you need a name right now? Is it because of playing paid gigs, or because you're ready to release an album, or is it just so you guys have more of a sense of identity? If it is, I do think it better for you guys to come up with your own names. You must have brainstormed already? Be creative unless you just want to be a cover-band. haha - just joking. What were some of the ideas put forth? Would also be nice to know what country you're from. I like some ethnic flavour. I suggest you name the band in your first-language. Thanks for all the contributions.
Yes, we are that amateur High-Schoolband. Unfortunatly, we haveŽnt recorded anything, and the reason is that we are on the jam stage. Leif. |

different spelling and remember bands have successfully managed to duplicate the following names without being sued:
Skid Row, Horse, Drifters, Nirvana, If (twice), Soma (twice), Tempest, Steps (twice), etc..
