That list would be a lot more impressive if you had actually written a single review.  Ratings without reviews add nothing constructive to the site.

I have nothing against rating without reviews. From Dallasbryans ratings I know when to trust his recomendations (Progressive electronic), and when not to (all other subgenres). Especially if the 'rater' is fairly profilic, it can be very constructive and helpful. Just like someones list can be.

I had a second look at that list and take it back.

Ok, I have no problems with ratings without reviews. I now know I can't really trust any of Dallasbryans reccomendations. (Except for late seventies, french electronic... maybe)

Negative result is also a result.

But that's the beauty of it - you are getting an idea whether you should get the album knowing taste of the person recommending it. Exactly what I need to make a decision. Therefore I prefer to make a list of reviewers whose recommendations I will probably follow, and the ones whose recommendations mean "red light" for me.

question, if you think most of the 5 stars and 4 stars selections that you know from American and British bands are pretty much great and I rate other European mostly instrumental bands from the 70's as being 5 stars and 4 stars also. Would that lead you to believe maybe these international artists made albums just as good as the british and american bands that you do know?

I am pretty sure that non-British and non-American artists made great albums as well.

The fact that Pink Floyd get three albums in the list compared to only only one by ELP would make me disregard it entirely.DB also doesn't like Kayak or Eloy,2 European bands that I do like. For that reason I will never follow his recommendations. You should listen to music you like rather than what other people think you should like.

I agree with richardh; unless you're a freshman proggie you should always try to select albums that appeal to you only-- that's part of the fun of prog, you're always an outsider. An independant thought/listening process is crucial for growth and real development of individual taste...and enough with the ridiculous lists-- really, it's too much, not particularly helpful and takes up huge amounts of space.

115? I don't think Tull made that many albums...better throw in Wish You Were Here.

Geez,
Positive input, thanks tuxon, you are a brave man! Just trying to save the newbie $100's looking through the progressive dumpster and supply a little direction. I agree with your selections as it defines your knowledgable taste.
