Organized by ProgQuebec and Unicorn records

this is a rather promising line-up

I can't wait to see those show. It was quite expensive but I think it'll be worth it Smile

By the way, Karcius is a really good band that should get more attention. Their first album is awesome IMO. Clap

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

A word from Robert Dansereau who is in the FMPM organization of the festival in Montreal on Sept 15 and 16 where Hatfield was scheduled to play:

I just got word from Leonardo this morning that
Hatfield and the North will be coming to Montreal.
Phil, Richard and Alex will be accompanied by their
friend Mark Fletcher, who substituted occasionnally
for Pip.

This will be a very emotional show, and we intend
to do something to commemorate Pip's memory.

I hope people don't consider it too expensive. At $80 an FMPM ticket is actually cheaper than many other festivals; ROSfest is $100 US, NEARfest is $90-105 US, ProgDay $100 US.

More comparable to us, CalProg is $65-80 US and has four bands, and Prog in the Park is $70 US.

Thanks for supporting us though!

Regards,
Sean

Seeing it that way, no it's not expensive. I was saying that because I'm a college student and 80$ is a lot of money for me. I'm poor Wink

I have gold tickets and I don't consider them to be that expensive.
Of course I will be able to give a better judgement after the event,if it was indeed worth it.Wink
But you guys have all my sympathy. To organize this kind of event is no small task.
And I'm sure you won't be rich doing it.

Btw,Sean when are the next ProgQuebec releases coming?

Salut,
Alain

Hello everybody,

I am new on this forum. I am from Montreal. I was a regular on Greg Lake.com for two years before he shut down his board. ( sniff...). I will be at the prog.fest in Montreal next friday and saturday. I will be in the first row. I bought the VIP past. So, prog.fans, see you there.

I was at Carl Palmer band show on the 27 th of may 2006 at the Medley. For those who were there, I was at the table saling items for Carl. I went also to see Asia in Boston last week. I met Carl again backstage. I also will be at the DrumFest in november.

Like many people, I assisted to several shows of my favorites over thirty years long for now, and I still like this music. I am sure that this prog.fest will be a nice experience.Smile

Bye from Sylvie

Anyone here was there yesterday and Friday?

I was there and was overwhelmed by the professionalism and overall quality of both organisation and bands.
Hatfield and The North was pure nirvana for me.Never saw them before.Their keyboard player even has the Canterbury ''humor'' down to a point.
Pip's Replacement wasn't an easy task but the new guy pulled it off well.
Both Richard and Phil were up to their reputated standards.
Jerome Langlois and his ''all-star Quebecois prog band'' made up of members of Maneige,Octobre,Coventum and Orchestre Sympatique was a very good way to start off the festivities with their brand of symphonic/light avant/jazzy/prog of the highets calibre.Despite the seriousness of the music, you could tell they were having a ball on stage.
Day two started with local new band Karcius and you could tell the band were a bit nervous.I thought that the band's over all sound was a bit muddy too.But all said and done they delivered an honest performance.Opening day 2 is never an easy task anyway.
Kaos Moon were for me the revelation of the festival.I wasn't expecting much from them, owning both their CD's,I thought we were gonna be treated to some neo prog. But I was wrong, instead they delivered a show full of variety and emotions, using a vast array of instruments;violins, percussions, winds ect...
Very thight and well rehearsed, nice classic Hammond sound too.
And their guitarist, never flashy yet full of drama and so talented.
Miriodor was,well MIRIODOR!
Ultra tight and complex rythms were delivered by all members with such an ease.
And their violonist Chantal Bergeron is sooooo cute and talented!Tongue
Headliners Echolyn were in top shape and their brand of high energy prog was perfect for closing such an event on a positive note.
Kudos to all for making such a wonderful event.

Alain,

Thanks a lot for coming, any feedback you or anyone else at ProgArchives wants to give about what they liked and what they'd like to improve would be most welcome.

I was at the prog.fest for the two days. I liked 5 shows out of the sixth. The last one, Echolyne, was not prog.at all to my ears. It was some sort of Metal mixed with southern rock. After 45 minutes of earing that music, I had enough. I got out and I chatted with the guys of Karcius.

I enjoyed pretty much this fest. I met a lot of people. Some were there at Carl Palmer Band show at the Medley in last may. Some recognised me because I was working at Carl's table saling items at the Medley.

I was sitting on row A, just in front of the stage. Like many of you, I enjoy Hartfield in the North, even if I did not know them before. What was fun, is that I had a quick lunch with them ( Richard and Phil)on saturday around 1 H 30 at the Piz Pistol ( not far from the Venue).   After Kaos Moon, around 7 p.m, I went to have something to drink outside of the venue, and suddenly, I saw again H and the North, but this time, I was PHil with the Keyboardist, the one who can speak french. I had something to drink with them. We talked about a lot of things. They told me that they never really liked ELP at all. They think that they are pompous and pretentious. I told them that they have the right to think that, and I have the right to think otherwise.

I discovered many music that I did not know at all. Karcius impressed me a lot with their musicianship, their youth, and their drummer. Did you notice that Simon L'espérance, their guitarist, looks very much like Carl Palmer's guitarist Paul B. ? The same look, the same way of playing, and the same "grimaces" when he is playing. Simon told me that he met Paul last may at the Medley. He met his brother Big smile.

Kaos moon was special with all the instruments that they played: the sitar, the violon, and much more. Miriador was fantastic. While Jerôme Langlois main theme and topic was nature and animals like butterflys and birds, Miriador themes were for most part "insects"; carterpillar, termites etc...strange and facinating world.

I found that the prog.people were very nice, very calm and interesting too. We can go there alone and easily make friends for the week end. I did met some american boys from the Rochester area. We went to the friday night party, to talke a walk saturday afternoon and have a beer on a terrace, and we discussed of many things.

It was a nice week end, but I was tired on sunday morning.

Hi Sean,

Of course it was nice meeting you as well as a lot of other folks, some I've already met at other prog concerts/events.
Meeting Gary Green and the boys from Hatfield as well as Kaos Moon was cool too.Clap
I agree with Sylvie that progsters in general are friendly and sociable and you can count on me to be there next year.
I have a long list of bands for suggestion, but I'm sure you guys will come up with a good line-up.
A la prochaine!Thumbs Up
