Too bad thats not true with his current tour.  Listening to him sing (or speak) thru Leaving Beirut is just painful!!  Not to mention his version of Sheep....

This is very true.  We really shouldn't care what they do.  Most of them, prog musicians especially, do this because they love it.

Depends on the genre really. Plenty of blues and jazz musicians have produced some of their best work quite late in life, if they've lasted that long. John Lee Hooker was in his 30s before he began his recording career (mind you, Hendrix would have been unrecorded if he'd done the same thing) and was still a good live act well into his 70s.
 
3 of Can's key members were in their 30s when the band started, and Holger Czukay is still capable of producing some very interesting music, and age doesn't appear to have withered Damo Suzuki either.
 
Having seen Magma live not that long ago I'm glad that Christian Vander is still playing as he approaches his 60th birthday, and I look forward to seeing them in France next year. Likewise Faust; Jean Herve Peron and Zappi Diemaier were exceptionally chipper onstage last year, and extremely affable when I had a chat with them afterwards.
