Topic: More Peter Hammill remastered albums due Posted: August 05 2006 at 12:22 |
A new round of releases of Peter Hammill remastered albums is just about to begin.
"Fireships" (one of the most beautiful pieces of music I know) and "Patience" will be available in August 2006. Amamzon.de says 14th of August. Since these two are FIE! / rough trade releases and not part of the EMI Virgin catalogue of PH solo albums which is due to be released in remastered form there is hope that all the main solo work of Peter Hammill will be available in remastered form. Can't wait to order. |

Hopefully the Charisma/virgin back catalogue will be out soon. Does anyone have news of these release data ? I'm having high expectations for the beginning years especially(1973 - 1978) If the sound and package of these remasters have the same quality of the VDGG, it should be great. Anyway, can't see the point in remastering albums like "The Noise" or "fireships" as these albums sounded quite well in their original form.... |

An unofficial PH/VdGG site says it should be at the end of the year.
I hope these remasters will sound like the VdGG remasters.
As for "Patience" and "Fireships" remasters, the site says the stock of these albums was empty for a long time; that is a reason for remastering. It also says the covers will be slightly changed (don't know what do they mean by that...)
I'm waiting for the end of the year...

Good news from the Peter Hammill newsletter:
"Virgin have now decided to put out the next eight solo albums. The first four to emerge will be "Chameleon", "Silent Corner", "In Camera" and "Nadir"; they're due in September. They'll be followed by "Over", "The Future Now", "pH7" and "A Black Box". (...) Aural/visual evidence of last year's passage of VdGG across the live firmament should soon be available in concrete and legal form, CD (RFH) and DVD (Leverkusen)." |

YES! I may have to get Fireships and Patience too actually, as I don't have those two. Time to spend more money I don't have! |

Words cannot describe how much I anticipate hearing A Louse Is Not a Home and Flight in remastered form. September and october cannot approach fast enough; of course I do plan to buy all eight albums (I have already ordered Patience and Fireships).
I find it slightly odd that Sitting Targets is not being remastered; wasn't that the last album on Charisma after A Black Box?

PH says in his recent newsletter Virgin wanted to wait the commercial success of the eight albums announced. Peter says that's quite fair. IMO the albums that sonically needed a remastering most - i.e. Chamaeleon, Silent Corner and In Camera - are included in the first series |

Four solo albums (Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night, The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage, In Camera and Nadir's Big Chance), remastered by Peter Hammill, will be released on September the 25th.

Bonus tracks are from BBC and from Skeletons of Songs bootleg.
I would like to see the whole Skeletons of Songs bootleg released officially, if it is possible. But, I'm afraid, it is not. Well, at least some tracks will be available on the remastered CDs.

Is there any word on a re-release for The Fall of the House of Usher?

It was re-released not a long time ago, in 1999. Do you mean the re-release of the 1999 re-released version?
Anyway, you can read something about the 1999 re-release (if you aren't already acquainted with the story) here:
http://www.sofasound.com/nlnov99.htm (see "Usher -- the return" section of a newsletter).
The year of a newsletter is 1999, naturally. Edited by Fassbinder - September 03 2006 at 20:29 |

I've ordered the first four. I don't know how long they'll be, but I can wait. I'm just happy to get the order in!
I don't have Over, so I look forward to hearing that for the first time, as well as The Future Now, pH7 and A Black Box. Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night will hopefully be transformed in remastered form! Also, Hammill apparently has a brand new album out in October, but that's all I know. I don't know a title for it or who's on it, or anything. I'd also like both versions of The House of Usher. |
