Galstonbury Festival supremo Michael Eavis has managed to secure the services of a band who haven't performed together in their original lineup for over 30 years for Glastonbury 2007. This would discount Zeppelin, Floyd, Cream etc. Could it be Genesis?
This rumour originates from BBC Radio In the UK and the DJ involved was unaware of who the mystery band was,so this is still idle specualtion but the statement is not a wind up. Technically Genesis doesnt fit the ident but it would make sense. Edited by Tony R - August 02 2006 at 20:15 |

How does this discount Pink Floyd? Syd Barrett never played with them after the late 60s did he?. That would be close to 40 years. Personally, since Pink Floyd already recently played together after their 20 year hiatus, I would prefer to see the original Genesis lineup, but I would have to say that Pink Floyd is more likely, though neither is probably what this guy is talking about.

Well Barratt's dead for starters.
I think he is saying that a band who have not been together for 30 years are reforming. To headline Glastonbury it would have to be someone big,but obviously there are probably dozens of semi-forgotten bands who could fit the clues. The other whispers (not related to this info) are Eric Clapton and Kylie... Edited by Tony R - August 02 2006 at 20:46 |

sort of rules that out doesn't it.... unless they strap him to a mic stand and do modern versions of his last shows with Floyd |

Fleetwood Mac... unlikely... very unlikely... but you never know!
And you did say original, line up didn't you? If it was Genesis, then it'd have to consist of: Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Chris Stewart . Edited by Geck0 - August 02 2006 at 21:13 |

While not the original lineup, the classic lineup of Genesis performed in 1982.

Fleetwood Mac?.... the original lineup perhaps.... not sure what Peter Greens mental state is... didn't he find God/LSD and become a monk or something Shame though... helluva Guitar player.... and it's going on 35-40 years since Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac last performed.. obviously morphing into the Fleetwood Mac that everyone knows. |

Haha, I saw Peter Green's Splinter Group perform a few years back on the same bill as John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.
The interesting thing is that Peter Green's Splinter Group has stop and Green's apparently moved abroad, because there are rumours of a reformation of Fleetwood Mac. I've know about this for a while, but very little is known and it's all speculation. He's not the guitarist he was, but he's come on a lot. By the way, I have a signed CD by Peter Green, beat that! |

I had head the rumour re Kylie...nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum... sorry, where was I? Oh yes, Glastonbury - I would be so p+++++ off if this were the case; not only would it mean having to share the experience with 100,000 people who (a) weren't even born when Genesis were at their height, (b) wouldn't care who they were watching, and (c) would actually explode if confronted with a song over three minutes long (God only knows what would happen at Glastonbury if a song strayed from 4/4 time). I know Yes played there a couple of years ago, but they were stuck on the Jazz World Stage mid afternoon - would you want to see the most eagerly anticipated reunion happen on a backwater stage... probably in the rain? However - could you imagine the possibilities if all the rumours were true: Genesis and a reformed Floyd on the same bill, with Clapton appearing as guest with both... and Kylie on vocals!nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum nice bum ...maybe not, eh? |

It could be Yes with Banks, Bruford and Kaye. On the other hand, it could be The Groundhogs. Even if it is Genesis, I'm not camping in a field of mud to see them.

Who cares about Dire Straits playing in their original line-up? The only irreplaceable band member was Mark Knopfler. It could be the Sex Pistols - Johnny Rotten left in 1977 - and the other original members are still alive Edited by Certif1ed - August 03 2006 at 08:53 |

The Sex Pistols have performed together over the last few years and of course the Sids keep expiring.
I think the thrust of the rumour is that the band would be reforming after not having played together in over 30 years. So that's Sex Pistols and Dire Straits out. |

I don`t think so. Peter Banks is not in good terms with Anderson/ Squire since he was fired from the band. Less since he was invited by Tony Kaye to join the band during the "Union" tour for a guest appearance in the U.S., and at the last time, he didn`t play (being at the venue backstage) because (as he said in one interview in 1994) Steve Howe didn`t want him on stage (it seems that Howe had enough competition with Rabin on stage to have another guitar player on stage; Howe of course say that "it wasn`t true" in another interview). Tony Kaye sued YES some years ago due to lack of paid royalties from the "90125" album, and he also sued them for the use of the name "YES". These legal problems were resolved last year, but I doubt that he is in good terms with Anderson /Squire now. Bill Bruford said that he was with YES "only fo the money" during the "Union" tour, so, if the money is good, maybe he could rejoin YES again. But the YEs name belongs to Squire, White, Howe, Anderson and Wakeman, so I doubt about a reunion of the original line-up.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: The original lineup of Fleetwood Mac.
That doesn't mean Danny Kirwan or Jeremy Spencer either. It'd be just: Peter Green Mick Fleetwood John McVie Oh and Bob Brunning! |

And what about Gentle Giant's original line-up, or the Octopus line-up (which consisted in the original line up except for John Weathers, their main drummer)? After all, they re-issued more than half their back catalogue, released two well selling DVD's... WHAT IF, MY FRIENDS ???
Last time these six played together was in 1973, when Phil Shulman was still there... Edited by Melomaniac - August 03 2006 at 17:22 |
