As prog lovers We have many diverse tastes and takes on our favourite music.I was wondering just how far removed our very first record purchase was from our tastes of today. My first buy was Neil Diamond's 'Crackling Rosie' back in 1969 when as a young raw performer I thought he was great!!!  How quickly that all changed I think my second was Elton John 'Your Song'

All my firsts where Elvis Presley, quikely followed by Elton John.

The first and only progsingle I bought was The Great escape by Marillion. Since then I decided only to buy complete albums.

I never really bought singles at first, just albums.

The first single I bought was

Deep Purple "New,Live&Rare" Vol 1 on Purple Vinyl 1977 (?). Wanted it because it had a version of "When A Blind man Cries" on the B-side. The live version of "Black Night" is awesome and still among my favourite live tracks.

Hey didn't they release that version of Black Night on some compilation album one time in the late 70's or early 80's with a live version from Child In Time live when the did Jon Lords Orchestral thing?   Can't remember the name and it is probably out of print.  Oh Well, Carry on...

My firsts were 4 Santana Singles and 2 Alan Parsons ones.  The Santana one with Aqua Marine on it was one of the best purchases I've ever made.  And they only cost me $0.50 each.

I don't buy CD singles though, just vinyl singles.
