I think this forum needs some more Umphrey's McGee love.

They kick amazing ass, and are the proggiest jam band I have ever witnessed.

Great band,I saw them with Ohm in Washington DC not too long ago,and they impressed even me more after seeing them live.

Their newest album Safety in Numbers is definitely on my list of favorite albums of 2006.

I honestly haven't heard very much of 'em, but I've heard great things.

How was OHM? I wish I hadn't missed their show up here.

They were pretty awesome.I was sort of bummed because I didn't know Kofi Baker wasn't in the band anymore, but their new drummer was really good.Me and my wife actually got to talk to Chris Poland and Robertino Pagliari for a few minutes, they were very nice guys.

Umphrey's rocks hard. Unfortunately, that means they're too good to come to Montana, so I've never seen them. Cry But everyone should get their New Year's Eve 2004 DVD, especially if you can't get to see them live. The only disappointment is that there are too many crowd shots, but it's still a killer buy.

I just consider them a jam band. It's not prog, neither is Phish, Gov't Mule, Grateful Dead, etc. But yes, Umphrey's McGee is amazing live.

Do you mean with OM Trio or OHM?
I dunno.  I saw them with Gov't Mule in Columbus and they put on an excellent show.

I consider them prog.  You have to listen to stuff like Bridgeless, Andy's Last Beer, Robot World, Miss Tinkle's Overture, and #5 to really witness them proggin out.

Gov't Mule and The Dead I agree are not, but PHISH has it's moments, as does moe.

Is anyone going to see them in Pittsburg on Aug 20th?

That DVD kicks ass.  My friend (and Drummer) has a copy signed by Ryan Stasik (bass).

I like the versions of NOPENER on there.

I also have Stasik's autograph, on my UMlive

Then you haven't really heard them if you say they sound like the Grateful Dead.  Only in Jerry Garcia's wet dreams maybe Wink. These guys are more progressive than a lot of bands I hear about here.  I saw them in California earlier this year and was blown away.  Pick up Anchor Drops it has some killer material. The guitar and keyboards are phenomenal and the drummer is one of the best drummers I have heard in a long time.  Add to that a killer percussionist and you have a great sound.  I don't know of any other prog band including The Flower Kings as tight as this group, plays riff after riff and still hold a song together.  My only complaint is I don't care for the vocals that much but who cares. Clap
I am sold.

Have Anchor Drops and do not like.  I should probably go over to the "most disappointed prog release" board and post there.  Not that I really consider them prog.  Won't be sending in my application to be an Umphreak.  Can I be a Flower Boy instead?
Biggles was in rehab last Saturday
