Hey guys, I'm not sure if you've heard of the infamous story about Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz being in synch with each other if you play the movie and the album at the exact right time, but I believe it's true because I've tried it and it was pretty close, if not perfectly, in synch with the movie. Vote and tell me what you think, doesn't matter if you've never tried it, give me your opinion.

I've never tried it, but I've heard that it does synchronize quite well. I don't believe that was intentional in any way, shape or form, however.

Never tried it, but I'm of the opinion that it's probably just coincidence. Maybe it's actually that the film has a sort of internal rhythm and structure, in the same sense as musical rhythm and structure, and that that has some correllation with the rhythm and structure of DSotM. Doubt it, though Big smile

The film must be longer than the album, so what happens when the album finishes?

I'd just like to know who thought of this first and why did he try it?

Well, it's funny because my friend (the guy I tried it with) told me the album is supposed to be on loop, so you'd hear the album a couple of times while just watching the movie once. He only showed me for about 30 minutes though, we didn't have that much time, we couldn't go through the whole movie.

Good question chopper, I have no clue who thought this up!

I have tried this and it works. For an AP US History project, I did the history of Pink Floyd, and my visual presentation was the sync Tongue. Needless to say, I got a 100.

I used the original DVD copy of The Wizard of Oz and the normal audio CD DSOTM. The trick is to start the album right after when the MGM lion in the opening credits roars for the third time.

The sync is not overly amzing, but there are really cool moments thats make you think "...Whoaaa...." The ringing clocks in 'Time' start right when the witch enters, and the following scene shows all the actors moving in sync with the rhythms of the music. Also, some of the lyrics seem to have an odd resemblence to what is happening on the screen.

For more info, try googling 'Dark Side of the Rainbow', because there are fansites out there that help explain how to do the sync properly.

As to exactly who figured out this sync works, I couldn't tell you. I assume it can be quite certain that Pink Floyd did not intend to do this...I would bet that it was just a bunch of college stoners who figured it out one night.

YES!!!

The synchronization is absolutely amazing

I tried it and I was just blown away

Here is a link that tells you how to set it up and shows you the similarities

I think it had to be a coincidence, but the amount of similarities are unnerving

The part that is most noticeably synchronized is during 'Breathe', when the lyrics read "For long you'll live and high you'll fly, but only if you ride the tide, balanced on the biggest wave, you race toward an early grave."
If you don't stand up
You don't stand a chance!

I've tried it and I was not convinced at all.  There are a few correlations, but you can basically do that with any movie.  To prove it to someone, I took a random album from my collection (Fetish Chicken's "Francis") and a random movie (The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh) and there were three times as many correlations. I encourage you guys to try it yourself with random albums/movies.  Its lots of fun. Even if you do believe in the similarities, its impossible that it would be intentional because the original vinyl doesn't have exactly the same times and you'd need to stop the movie 5 times to flip the record (which would completely throw off your chances of lining it up).  The real question is... Who figured this out in the first place?

I have a downloaded version wizard of oz already sync'ed up and I think it works quite well.  (I have an active imagination whick helps I suppose).Big smile

When the end of the album is reached it just starts again while the movie continues, (this doesn't work as well as the first play of the album / first half of movie).

I was very skeptical of this, but then I tried it and it does work. I'm still not sure whether it's coincidence or not.
