Some suggestions about 6-string bass

   Hi everybody

I'm about to purchase my first 6-string bass and I wonder if any of you has some suggestions to give me.

I'm not ashamed of saying that I'm trying as much as I can to emulate
and follow Michael Manring, who is without any doubt, the most
innovative player since Jaco passed away.

He is using Zon basses, fretless and multi-tuning, yet I'm more into Carl Thompson basses, for instance the same of Claypool.

I know the cost is pretty much prohibitive, but I'm ready to save up a bit if necessary.

My style consists mainly of tapping/chords techinque, and therefore I
really need a bass which sounds warm and clean. I personally like
basses whose body is not too big, as I'm not this big man, and for
example, patitucci models do not fit me at all. I would like to try
Dolphin I, produced by Warwick, but I know they only make 5-string
models, which is a shame. I also know that Modulus produce very solid
and good basses too.

Moreover, my idea is to reproduce on the bass the same harmonic
structures of guitars, and not limit myself just to walking bass or
standard sounds.

If you know any other brand which could give me the same response, active or passive models, it would be appreciated.

	I just recently ordered Carvin's Icon Seris Six-String Bass. They have fast necks, and an ergonomic body with a 34 inch scale to keep fretboard speed. They also feature string through body bridges to increase sustain. Tobias Basic 6 string basses are also cool but a bit more pricey. If you're checking out Warwick, check out their Streamer models. Spector American six string basses are cool too.

	On a related note, does anybody know of good manufacturers for 6 string basses with very thin necks? I have small fingers

	^Ibanez makes very thin necks, I suppose Carvin's necks and Tobias' necks aren't too big either. Warwick necks are a little bigger and Spector's necks are a fatter "C" shape.
