I love watching videos of psychedelic rock (generally concert videos).  I was looking for some recommendations of good DVDs.  What I've got already are Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii (freaking awesome, one of a kind), Pink Floyd PULSE, Hawkwind Chronicle of the Black Sword, And Dream Machine Live at Bush Hall.  Any other suggestions out there?

oh man.... as much as I LOVE  the group.... I guess I've morphed into a 'hardliner' when it comes to things like that.... I consider them a psychedelic group... the best and most influential of the lot of them... but not a prog group.  Same reasoning I've been a vocal opponent of Zeppelin getting in.  GREAT group... heck so is Steely Dan... but simply just not a 'prog' group. At least in how I view prog...for what it's worth. Confused  I see the rationale behind prog related but don't agree with it.  A great deal.. heck most of the late 60's and 70's rock scene could be defined at some point as prog-related.  Anyway... just my two cents.. Embarrassed

As I said earlier, Jefferson Airplane is a great band and Grace Slick her toes are more sexy than everything Madonna and Britney Spears ever showed .. Wink ..

hahahh.... you asked for it Wink

*micky puts his hair back in a pony tail, puts a flower in his hair, puts on some Jack Casady shades, and puts my favorite pair of bell-bottoms on*

to add to the mood.... Fly Jefferson Airplane in the DVD player..... 'Six Musicians in Search of an arrangement'

Erik... a HUGE fanboy... another love of my fathers that I immediately latched on to.  Jack Casady might have been the ugliest musician this side of Steve Howe... but the  beauty is in the talent...

Jefferson Airplane Takes Off -  I love the folksie nature of this album.  I love original vocalist Signe Anderson.  That women had some frickin pipes (Chauffeur Blues Clap)  On of the bonus tracks on the remaster is a studio version of High Flying Bird.... great song... have live recordings of this one with both Signe and Grace.... Signe smokes Grace.

Surrealistic Pillow - funny enough.. the most popular album... and probably my least favorite.. though it has a Micky top 3'r J.A. song on it... 3/5 of a mile in 10 seconds (Kantner's rhythm guitar on this is just fabulous)  As an upside in my case... the bonus tracks on this... best of the series.  Go to Her and Come Back Baby,  in particular,  just sizzle.

After Bathing at Baxters - ahhhh.. if I could name only one (obviously I can't) this would be the one.  From the clarion feedback intro of The Ballad of You & Me & Pooneil to 'Acid,  Insense and Balloons'  of Won't You Try/ Saturday Afternoon.  A truly INCREDIBLE album.  Throw in my alltime Grace lyrical and performance moment in Rejoyce plus the Spare Chaynge where you can just hear the Acid and LSD being dropped during that 10 minute instrument raja.. and you have not only my favorite psychedelic album but a top 20 Micky trans-genre alltime favorite album.

Bless It's Pointed Little Head (live) - ' oh no, it wasn't the airplanes, it was BEAUTY that killed the beast'  hahahha what an intro to the definative Airplane live album.  As I'm sure you know... Jefferson Airplanes songs were meerly blueprints off of the album... live is where they were perfected.  Live is where the Airplane TRULY soared.  Look at that total deconstruction of the old warhorse Somebody to Love... the song other than the lyrics... totally unrecognizeable.  My favorite. The Other Side of this Life.  I can just visualize Casady's Guild Starfire shaking the dust and decay off of the old Fillmore East.

Crown of Creation - probably their most 'proggy' album.  Jorma really comes into his own with the songwriting, Jack's bassline to the title track is just prehistoric.  Love the David Crosby song.. Triad... oh the 60's hahahha Wink

Live at the Fillmore -  another official live release kicked off by a great version of The Ballad of You & Me & Pooneil (though I like the DVD performance better).  I really don't listen to his much... BIPLH is my favorite official live release. Great liver version of White Rabbit though

Volunteers - my 2nd favorite Airplane album.  Love the contributions from Jerry Garcia, Nicky Hopkins, and Stephen Stills.  Being one who is politically active, and has a passion for politics... not to mention falling on the left side of the aisle.  I love it's overt political nature... 'Up against the Wall.. Mother F....rs'  hahhahah.

those are my favorite Airplane albums.....

edit...

been having an Airplane evening to come down off of my L O S T high this evening hahhaha...what a show..

fav Airplane songs

1.  The Ballad of You & Me & Pooneil
2. Pretty as you Feel (from Bark with Carlos Santana guesting on guitar.... such a beautiful song)
3. 3/5 of a mile in 10 seconds
4. Go to her (available as a bonus track on Takes Off with Signe, and Surrealistic Pillow with Grace)
5. The Other Side of this Life (various live recordings)
