Yesterday I went to a "retro" party (retro my ass, before you could tell we where dancing salsa), but well anyways, it did have some old songs...you knwo, the classic disco songs...Last train to London, Gloria...but then, all of the sudden..."Ladys and gentleman...Emerson...lake ...and Plamer!"...hehehe, I had to laught so hard, I guess I was the only one there knowing them...and it was also funny because I was with a friend of mine, girl, and she loves to dance...but when they started with that song...she just stood there...hehehe "Im not dancing this " she said ehhehe, and she doesnt know them...hehehe was funny, the thing is also...its not a danceble song, so me and some friends just started to do some air guitaring (which is more stupid as its E,P&P)...
But has this ever happen to you? You are in a party, and suddenly a porg song!...ah and ´80 Yes and Collins pop Genesis dont count!

Another thing was that as a decoration there where some vynils...and you wouldnt guess it, but most of them were prog! Atom heart mother, Time and a word, Benefit, A passion play, the second PFM album, Moving Waves...UTOPIA!!! now thats strange...

I don't know what kind of parties you have in Argentina, but here "retro" is like 1990. Sounds like a pretty sweet (prog) party! Thumbs Up

Typically you put on the (real) prog at the end of the night when you're tired & want to get everyone out! Just make sure they're no prog fans in attendance, otherwise you could be in for a long night...

I have fond memories of teenage parties where my friends and I would put on Yessongs (when it was new!)...in the middle, slow part of "Close to the Edge" people would invariably start to shout "What is this f**kin' church music?!?!?" And put on some respectable AC/DC or something, still muttering "f**kin' CHURCH music!!!"

For dancing, it's best to have a constant tempo throughout. It also best to have a steady bass line. A lot of prog has the opposite. What's funny is watching people dancing to something in an odd time signature. Sometimes they almost fall over trying to stay in step.

Well. I have enough progloving friends, to have a party with just prog.

So I've been to huge birtdayparties listening to Dancing with the Moonlit Knight, Lemmings, Zero the Hero.. and seen women dancing to Curved Air, Le Orme, Banco, Comus, Amon Düül II...
There's always someone complaining, of course.

Hot tip: a lot of can's music is very danceable. Try Mother Sky. And Kraftwerk is always a good compromise. Most people like them.

Dance to Roundabout? That part in the middle where there's no bass or drums? Does one just stand on the dance floor for a while until the beat starts again?

Maybe on that part one should float around and gather psychedelic vibrations with glittering butterfly wings? Tongue Big smile
