A recent poll suggested the first prog epic, 'In Held Twas In I' by Procol Harum, originated from the concept album.

How is this possible? What is the logic behind this?

“I heard this concept album, therefore lets go make a prog epic”! I cannot find the logic in this unless the inspiration came from a concept album without pauses between songs like Moody Blues’ 'Days Of Future Passed'. In this way the prog epic would correspond to a short version concept album.

Maybe because a band had a kind of concept, but wasn't willing to use it for a complete album, or lacked the inspiration for a complete album, so instead of that they created a suite?

Its the same idea of creating a piece of music to explore a concept usually with repeating themes ect ect.

But instead of devoting an entire album to fufilling that bands decided to just create an extended track.
