He was an absolutely brilliant musician, a good-hearted man, and a friend to all of us at Cuneiform. Elton had worked with Cuneiform for years, releasing various solo and group recordings with us in addition to the dozens of lps and CDs he released on the British label Hux and other indie labels, including Ogun, Slam, Voiceprint and MoonJune. Steve Feigenbaum and I last saw Elton perform in Paris in 2004 - his playing there, as part of Soft Bounds, was nothing short of amazing - he had continued to grow better with age, and despite poor health. It was as though his music was triumphing over his body. Following the show, all of us had a welcome, late-night chat session in Le Triton's green room. While we'll miss the music that infused Elton's soul and served as his driving force, we will miss Elton's humanity - his very human and humane good-heartedness - the most. If I only I could be there. He was such a great artist, and it's great to see such a wealth of talent pay tribute to his work.
