I've got the 2000 remaster of Deep Purple's "The Book of Taliesyn" which states that the album is a musical representation of 7 different feelings inspired by 'Taliesyn, bard of the fabulous court of King Arthur....responsible for providing all the entertainment and setting the various moods of the court'. Shocked
 
That the album should be a concept album seems to me a little over the top, not to say exaggerated, as it is otherwise completely incoherent. If indeed there was a concept I don't find it implemented at all Confused. Do you?

I always got the feeling that the "concept" came after the songs were already recorded which is absolutely backasswards.  The music is good and sometimes great but as a concept album it fails to qualify.  Probably some record exec thought it was a fine idea at the time.

Haha- in no way is that a concept album...To me, it smacks of being a thrown together album. Half of it is good (Listen Learn Read On, Wring That Neck) to excellent (Anthem, Shield) proto prog, the other half is weighed down with rather kitsch covers of 60s standards. Even from that, you can tell it's hardly a concept album. Incoherent is the right word, I agree...

"Anthem" and "Shield" are truly good songs. There's the nice cover pic....

I think Talyesin is the weakest of the three Mk I albums, although there are wonderful songs like Listen Learn Read on and Anthem in this album. Love Emmareta too. But the covers really destroy the album, specially "We can work it out". "Help" is passable, but this one f****d it all.
 
Ah, the question: it's not a concept album, of course.

Not a concept at all. Although great album together with Deep Purple.. Shades is a little bit messy.
