What's the deal with the alternative album cover for Octopus?  My icon displays what I have, but many of the pictures online show an octopus in a jar.

The octopus in a jar one is cool I think, but yours is most certianly better. Roger Dean painted that, didn't he?

I, for one, like the jar one better.

The UK one is badass, but the Jar one is still great.

Personally i like the US cover better. I never found the appeal to the UK one. I'm not saying its bad cause its really not. Dean has a nice cover there, but it just doesn't "grab me" so to speak.

I bought mine in the US and I have the Dean cover; I don't really see what all the fuss is about I like both covers evenly.

Well that explains it.

Now...I just found online the sheet music for Knots.  So...I'm going to try to record it.  Fun times for me ahead.  Go vocal fugue!

To everyone that has the Jar US version.. Does your aldum jacket also have the cut outs that make the top the actual shape of a jar? I always wondered if they ever issued plain square jackets for this cover.

I'm surprised you have the UK cover being that you are from the US.

I agree with you there, the Dean album cover makes you think the album is going to sound completely different than what it really is, and the US release gives you an incentive on the quirkiness that's within the album.

The reason to purchase the Vertigo import version in the US is that it sounded better!
Vinyl just sounds better!!

It's a matter of taste, but I love the Dean cover. Great colours, especially, and not everybody knows that GG called the album "Octopus", because there are eight pieces on them (oct-opus).
