Why do people include big pictures in their postings and then keep sending them? Is this really necessary?

Since it is a facility provided by the site it is also natural that some people wish to add a picture to their signature. 
For me the major issue are the thread with posts full of quotes where after 4 or 5 "quotes" one may become totally confused not knowing who is who. But this a matter of netiquette, and with time the debaters shall learn how to organize the post (a good example to be followed is Iván Melgar, with his colourful posts but very comprehensive too).

It is kind of annoying scrolling past the same 500 pixel tall picture you've seen a hundred times... but I think those lists that show how many times the person listened to whatever band are even more annoying. Like we care how many times you've played VDGG lately.

You can say 1'000,000 words about being ready to give your life for freedom, but this picture speaks louder and clearly:
Not as trascendental as the previous but I can talk about Genesis concerts in every forum, and do it, but recieved at least 50 PM's asking for the picture in my signature.
