72-74 easily was prog's crowning period

76-79 also had it's fair share of creativity and innovation, albeit with lesser known bands, more in the Canterbury and RIO genres

69-72 i think i might like better because there was still clear psychadelic influences and better albums Close To The Edge,Foxtrot,Pawn Hearts first three soft machine albums,Birds Of Fire,Hot Rats and many other albums but my fav crimson era was probably 72-74 and KC are probably my fav band so its a hard one

72-74.

But 69-72 is more important for the development of progressive music.

Well, the 70s would be the easy answer for most, but I am probably one of few who absolutely love recent prog, so much as to vote for them in this poll. The Mars Volta, Coheed, Dream Theater, The Flower Kings, The Tangent, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Niacin, Neal Morse, etc. I adore the new stuff as much as I do the classics. While in most cases, I would have to hand it to the early-mid 70s, I think the new bands deserve at least one vote. So I'll give them that vote.
