Topic: ELP vs Le Orme vs Triumvirat Posted: January 16 2006 at 05:33 |
I'm curious to read your opinions, folks!
P.S. and to know the outer-england bands' popularity!
My vote goes to...

The originators of that whole movement were ELP.But I prefer Triumvirat,I always thought that thier albums were better produced.

Will the match-up be a free for all, or will the third band take on the winner of the bout between the first two?
Also, what weight class are the respective band members in? I need to know that, before I can predict the outcome.
Seriously, though, what is your criteria? Triumvirat were clever clones who went downhill fast, and in a big way, after Spartacus, and ELP had a much bigger influence on prog than either "the Rat" or Le Orme. Love 'em or hate 'em, I believe ELP were one of the top five or so most important bands in the history and development of progressive rock. Speaking strictly in terms of importance (subjective musical/esthetic considerations aside), neither of the bands you've pitted them against is anywhere near ELP's class.
My considered opinion.

ELP is a part of my progrock education, I still feel shivers down my spine and got goose bumps while listening and watching their early music, loaded with Hammonds and Moogs, sensational! They were creative and innovative with their blend of rock and classic, I also love the acoustic side (piano, guitar) and Greg Lake his warm vocals.
Le Orme is my favorite Italian band, especially Collage and Felona E Sorona are great!
Triumvirat is too obvious influenced by ELP, I am delighted about their album Spartacus but this band is not really a favorite of mine.

I've written in the post scriptum that the poll was thought to see how much popularity has the outer-englang bands I've mentioned...

What the man said. Although I have to say that I love "Illusions On A Double Dimple", which I've owned since it was released and enjoy as much as anything ELP produced.

Wonderful poll, Andrea!
So I have to choose between ELP and Le Orme? That's a tough one! I really love ELP's first album, and lots of tracks on Tarkus and BSS, and Beyond The Beginning (dvd)
But I also love & cherish Le Orme, especially Felona E Sorona, and the fantastic magnificent brilliant Contrappunti!!!
Triumvirat? That don't impress me much, not even Spartacus.
My vote goes to... ELP, but Le Orme comes very close!

Thanks, Marcel
...so my thoughts were right! Many many people know and like currently Le Orme...
I've seen that whilst the most part of non-italian progrock listeners like more PFM or BMS, a great part of italian aficionados put Le Orme as the number one...does it's due to the lyrics?
I want to remember also the italian charts during the seventies...Le Orme did sell their albums better!
maybe I'm right to think it is due to the lyrics...
BTW let me take another listen to Maggio
Triumvirat? I thought they were the best german band of that genre...do I make a silly mistake? Let me know

Andrea, you should listen to Ramses their first two albums, splendid vintage keyboards, the first Wallenstein is also worth listening but not really ELP inspired.
