Topic: Lyrics ? (poll) Posted: January 14 2006 at 10:45 |
I like all the bands on the list : sure they are have some problems with the lyrics in some aspects .. each for differant reasons to each other . Listen to Jon Anderson from Yes Tales from topographic ocoens .. after hearing I was thinking WOW that was so at one with life .. then later I sat back and read his words slowly only to find they hardly make any sense they just sound good

Anderson's lyrics are perfectly valid -- not all poetry has to make literal, immediate sense. His lyrics are evocative -- they can mean many things to many people. It's just another long-established way to write poetry.
In any case, I don't care for these negative polls -- they seem mainly designed to offend and pick fights.
BTW, that's weakest not "weekest," and Pink, not "Phink." How could any English speaker think there was an h in "pink?" (It's not a typo, either -- the H key is next to neither the P nor the I.)
Are you trying to be irritating?

Yes lyrics are usually not weak, they are just too weird for most people.
Dream Theater have some weak lyrics, but some good ones as well.
The Flower Kings have sometimes cheesy lyrics, but they are not awful.
The "winner" is Phil Collins, especially for Who Dunnit.

I must say that I find Tales form topographic oceans to be one of the albums with best lyrics Ive ever heard, specially Yes albums! There are always so many negativity with Andersons lyrics...I find them among the best lyric writers we have.

I voted for Genesis, though I'm probably being unfair since I can't stand how Phil ruined the Genesis I know and love with Peter Gabriel.
