I'd have to go with Arena, either "The Visitor" or "Contagion". I remember the first time I heard "The visitor" I was really quite emotional. I never thought I'd ever hear an album again which could move me in the way the music of the early 70's did.

I'd have to say one of the following two:

Deloused - Mars Volta

Metropolis 2 -  Dream Theater

Yep ,you are right. It's such a nineties sounding recording as well! At least that's one I can add to my very small list of favourite eighties prog albums!

So another post 1990 album is needed.I'll pick Anglagard - Hybris to go with IQ's Ever.

Very good album, and very original music. 'Roygbiv' and 'Aquarius' make me melt everytime I hear them

Did you hear the follow up album 'Geogaddi'?? Not as good IMO, but still good..

I always felt that I was drawn to alot of ambient electronica beause I liked prog. I liked the lengthy, atmospheric tracks, and conceptual feel to albums like 'Lifeforms' by FSOL, and 'Adventures beyond the ultraworld' by The Orb.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Hi Blacksword
BoC/MHTRTC had/has a very unusual quality in it's production.I can't quite place what it is but the
nearest that I can describe it as is womb-like?
Geodaddi is still very good but lacks the extra
'something' that MHTRTC had/has.

I’m a big fan of Boards Of Canada too, they are quite unconventional even for electronica ,to me they produce some of the most visually aesthetic music possible.

Geogaddi is probably my favourite of theirs the whole album just flows so right for me the track Sunshine Recorder is amazing atmospheric… ever since  that album I’ve never felt the need to listen to Twoism or MHTRTC
