On my way to work this morning- I was listening to Andromeda- a prog-metal band from Sweden, I believe.

I was wondering something, Do these bands from Sweden, Poland, and other non-English speaking countries(1st language) speak English in their daily lives? How much? Is there any way of knowing this?

As far as I know English are quite popular in Sweden

I don't think they are that popular in Poland

In Greece for example we use several English words (unfortunately) as I believe this happens in every country

English have undoubtdely become the universal language

I have the odd habit of speaking my native language(Norwegian), but that's just me.

I watched an "The Saint" on TV tonight, and found it quite amusing that for almost the entire episode all the German characters in Germany were speaking in English .

What makes me sad is how many people say "movies" and "seasons" now. In the sense of series, rather than quarters of a year that is.

I believe that bands sing in English when they want to reach an ethereal stuff called 'International Market'.

Prog-rock proved that you can sing in your native language and be understood (the music, the orchestration, the feeling, etc.) and with internet it is easy to get the original lyrics and also the translation (not the on-line translation).

Could you imagine "The Odyssey", by Symphony X, starting this way:

Andra moi ennepe, Mousa, polutropon, hos mala polla
plagchthê, epei Troiês hieron ptoliethron epersen.

It's like hearing Homer!
