i grew up listening to these artists. As much as i would like to vote them all, i chose The Cure.

hmmm...know what you mean.......there is world of music that falls outside prog classification and yes I would have to rate The Cure ( Particularly Disintegration, Wish, Bloodflowers and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me), whew  and that ecxcludes Faith, 17 seconds and Pornography!!! as one of the best bands around,,,

their best album for me though is Disintegration... followed closely by Kiss me Kiss me Kiss me and Wish...

Deep Purple (I do not consider as a real prog band, only my opinion). Made In Japan is the KEY that opened my heart to prog. Really significiant album.

I think the only stuff I presently have, which isn't in Prog Archives would be 2 Blind Guardian albums, and 1 Jefferson Starship album...that's it...

ahh yes, Made in Japan is a very good album.

though they are considered as Proto prog here.

From the list I listened to all artists from America up to Elton John with no exception - I still hear some of them. Below Elton I didn't pay much attention for all of them.

Out of the list there are hundreds of others I listened to like Beatles, Stones, Who, Led, Byrds, Creedence, Animals, Donovan, not counting dozens of Brazilian singers.

So I voted for America... 'I need you' is one of the best pop-rock ballads IMO.
