Topic: Hello,I am from China,need help! Posted: January 04 2006 at 10:23 |
I like rock music for nearly 9 years, and I am also a drummer. But I touch progressive metal just more than 1 year. I already knew some greatest band, such as DT, symphony X, Rhapsody, nightwish(sort of Gothic)...... and also realize this is what I really pursued. So can some one introduce me some great prog metal album that can not miss. I will very appreciate for that, thank you!!!

Well Tool are prog metal, I have not heard much of them but you might like them
Also, king crimson are one of the greatest progressive rock bands there is and they have some really heavy songs, like 21st century schizoid man, Red, Larks tongues in aspic, all of which are excelllent!! But they can do more than just your average rock n roll number

For me the current best progmetal bands are Pain of Salvation and Ark.
I don't know much Treshold, but the little bit I do know is wonderful.
But maybe I'm not the right person to talk to, seeing you like some (IMHO) awful powermetal.

I'd throw Queensryche and Iron Maiden in as some other bands you might want to check out. (I'd recommend starting with Operation Mindcrime and Powerslave, respectively).

Try "The Wake" and Subterranea, from IQ. A mix between goth/metal/prog very well balanced, and beautifull as almost no other band from that period. Before I must warn you, sometimes the music tends to be very "sweet", wich I think is one of the greates achievments on those IQ albums. You might not like it, but try it anyway. I belive you can find somehitng to listen right here on this site.
