Ahoy fans of Camel...this is a test for y'all. Help a reviewer in need.
Hey give me a band or album that sounds and/or get close to Camel in the Mirage era.I really, really, really like the album's feel. Can you recommend anything? 
Which means:
-heavy guitar or good riffing guitar presence
-keyboards atmosphere (mellotron or B3 Bardens' style )
-fantasy themes
Fans of Mirage will know what I mean. I know Lady Fantasy don't exist somewhere else but something's got to ressemble?

Hi:
I see what you mean. I'm a big Camel fan, but more of the Latimer sound. But here is one suggestion:
Rousseau, 'Flower in Asphalt'. This german record is the most similar one to the Bardens era Camel I've found. Hope you like it.

Try Focus
That's not as "gentle" and "caravan-like",

 Well, not having heard the album (except the MP3 of "Lady Fantasy" -- great track!), I don't have a recommendation for you, Menswear, but now I want to buy the Camel album -- sounds right up my alley! 
 On second thought, I guess you could try some early Uriah Heep -- tracks like "Gypsy," "High Priestess" & "Lady in Black" come to mind -- or is that too obvious?

"Mirage" *is* a classic, Peter, and I'm sure you would enjoy it. I went to a couple of Camel concerts in the 1970s and at the second they refused to play 'Lady Fantasy': apparently the band was so sick of playing it at concerts that they just flatly refused to do it, despite the clamouring audience. Whilst I have some sympathy with the band, I still think it is somewhat akin to biting the hand that feeds you.

I kinda missed Camel although I love the track 'Freefall'.
Is Mirage the best album for a new guy to buy?

For the "classic" Camel fan SNOWGOOSE must be the album since its a concept album and you hav great joy from track one to the last one... Mirage and Moondance are sort of second options. I have here an album called I CAN SE YOUR HOUSE FROM HERE, a sort of The Best of, with lots of nicely played live material from previous albums. So Besides Lady Fantasy one of my favorite Camel tunes (not caml toes !) is ICE....

I also have the instrumental album "The Snow Goose" (in fact I saw CAMEL perform it at the Royal Albert Hall in London) and it is indeed good. However, in my opinion, "Mirage" is much better than "The Snow Goose", and a better introduction to CAMEL.

SEBASTIAN HARDIE (from Australia)
BELLAPHON & AIN SOPH (from Japan)
ASIA MINOR (from Turkey/France)
CARPE DIEM (from France)
IL TRONO DEI RICORDI & MOONGARDEN (from Italy)
QUIDAM & COLLAGE (from Poland)
NOVALIS (from Germany)
All these bands have recorded great material, and they certainly could please Camel fans since their own respective styles are influenced (to a certain degree, at least) by Latimer & co. Not all of them use Hammond B3, but... regarding the whole picture, I think you might try these ones. All of them are listed in the Archives.
