How many times you listen a Prog CD to fix all the songs in the CD?

You guys hear a little of all CD's or listen the same CD many times?

How can i remember the music of all CD's?

It really depends, sometimes the album goes straight to the heart.Other times it requires a little "work".I think that an album that you like straight away, you will probably tire of quite soon. Not always, but in more than 50% of the cases. But then again, good mudic is good music no matter what.Me myself,i mostly listen to a lot of albums once. But then again if its something special,i play it many times.Sometimes i listen to it once, and think that its ordinary. Then i take it out a monthlater, and love it.Its like fine wine,it gets better with time.

ditto on the like it first up - tire of it quite soon. The gems are the ones that take work. This is the very reason why progressive music could never find its way back into mainstream- attention spans are too short nowadays.

Yes, sometimes it takes some time to get into album. But sometimes first time is enough to like, or even love it.

The same goes for me: the masterpieces need work. Selling England By The Pound took me a few weeks to truly appreciate it. One notable exception was Van der Graaf Generator though, they struck me from the moment I heard them and they continue to do so...

I tend to listen to most albums only once, though some things merit
repeated plays. But with around 10,000 albums and more coming in
nearly every day, there's too much new music to hear to play anything
less than brilliant repeatedly.

I wonder if you really get much out of your listening experiences this way... You seem to consume music, literally, rather than taking the time to enjoy it and let it inside your heart and mind. Hmmm, each to their own, I suppose. I can only hope that you are able to recognise a brilliant CD, which deserves more than one listen, when you hear it for the first time!

I didn't like some of my favourite albums the 1st time I heard them. Like In The Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson, and Feels Good To Me and One Of A Kind by Bruford (my first jazz rock cd's).

Usually it takes a few listens for me to decide if I really like a cd. I only found out after 7 listening sessions that Coda's What A Symphony was a masterpiece. Before I didn't really like it.

What I don't do is listen to the same cd twice a day. I like variation. Most of the times I don't even listen to the same cd more than once a week!

I listen to a lot of different cd's, and mostly I wait some time before I listen again to a certain cd.

I never use the shuffle function for a cd. I suppose that most prog fans don't use it a lot, either.

Most of the time if it's new music, or a new band, I need to listen to it thru headphones and late at night when I'm almost asleep. That almost-asleep time is for some strange reason where I do all my music appreciation. I couldn't for the life of me understand why Van der Graaf Generator were getting such an awesome reputation around here before. Listened to Pawn Hearts and only really liked Man-Erg for the fun schizo-ness. Then I fell asleep to Lemmings and woke up somewhere around Plague. I am now a Hammill-addict.

If it's a band I already have stuff by, then I usually like the CD already, so I can listen whle conscious and still love the crap out of it.

Anyway, once I get into a CD it constantly floats around the player until I get more new music. Then it gets shelved and loved on special occasions.

I only ever use the shuffle function on the offchance that none of the songs have to do with each other and that there are no transitions between songs, just silence from one to the next. It's good for best-ofs and compilations. It's nice to be surprised. But I can't see using it on The Wall. I tried that once and it was just too weird.

Yes, fair comment. Generally I know what I think of an album the first
time I hear it - and on the rare occasions that I don't, it gets a very swift
second listen!

That was like me with ITCOTCK - King Crimson.  Listened to it through 3 times in a row.

Depends. If i buy many CD's at the same time, I usually listen to all of them one time each three times. If i only buy one, i usually listen to it 3-4 times in a row
