I don't know about you, here at Prog Archives, but I love the Ozrics'
unique musical sound. I also love how the names are often comprised
of nonsense words, i.e. Iscence.

Heh! I once played bass for them

My first encounter with them was at a free festival in Reading called "Doris' 21st Birthday Party", in 1984. They headlined the Friday night, the Magic Mushroom Band headlined Saturday, and Here and Now took Sunday. The band I was in kicked the whole festival off - and there had been so many delays that we were past steaming when we eventually hit the stage...

Cool, they are the epitome of Jam band, even though that's not what the
term means, and thanks for replying to a lonely n00b's topic.

Don't I know they're the epitome of a Jam band (I get your meaning!) - when I said I played bass for them once, I meant once - I went up to the stage and said "Can I play bass for a couple of tunes?", and they agreed, no hesitation. We jammed in front of an audience for nearly half an hour, after which time I just felt it was time to give them back their own bass player (pre Roly), and handed the axe back with a big grin on my face!

It was incredibly uplifting - I'd seen them several dozen times and loved the way they wound and snaked their lyrical lines, and just "felt" my way into the jams - although I suspect they actually covered up most of my fluffs with those great synth and guitar sounds - and Tig's awesome drumming. Tig was the reason for my boldness - I just had to play bass with that man's drums!

Er, I won't bore you with any more tall stories - I do that enough to the regulars! Welcome aboard, from a gnarled oldie!

Fantastic story Cert, Don't hesitate to let loose. That's the kind of thing that makes this site grand.

I dig the Ozrics too. I've got a few albums and they are great for parties.... let 'em play. Their stuff maintains a near dance beat and makes the grey-hairs look flabberghasted... brilliant!

The Ozrics were great live everytime I saw them. You can hear so many influences in their music - Steve Hillage, Hawkwind and all manner of dub too - that are meshed together very skillfully.

Cert, I lost count of the number of times I saw the magic Mushroom Band. They were from Bracknell. I saw Gary about a year ago and he said he was emmigrating down under. His daughter had apparently got herself a record deal there.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
