Pawn hearts - A Plague of lighthouse keepers
Godbluff - Scorched earth
Still life - Pilgrims
World Record - A place to survive
The Quiet Zone-The Pleasure Dome - Lizard play
Past/present - Nutter Alert

This is hard. I only have about half of all their albums, so it gets even harder.
The only thing I`m really sure of is that Sleepwalkers is the best track on Godbluff.

Fantastic poll, congratulations Titanic:
Van der Graaf are my favourite band, so I'd even take three pieces for each album, but the poll is clear. So:

Afterwards
Refugees
Lost
The plague of lighthouse keepers
The sleepwalkers
Childlike faith in childhood 's end
When she comes
Yellow fever/cat's eye
Roncevaux
Every bloody emperor

I also considered Time Vaults because it mostly contains original tracks or very different versions.

Only three albums in my possession:

H to He who am the only one -   The emperor ...
Pawn hearts - A Plague of lighthouse keepers
Godbluff - Arrow (at the moment, but mt first VDGG songs was Undercover Man, and that song will always keep a special place)

Next album to discover would be Still Life and I hope it will be more in line with Godbluff than Pawn Hearts. Pawn Hearts is sometimes a bit too much for me.

Still Life - La Rossa
World Record - Meurglys III
The Quiet Zone - Cat's Eye/Yellow Fever (Running)

^ Thanks, if you mean that Still Life is more in line with Godbluff.

Otherwise you mean to confirm that Pawn Hearts is a bit too much for me. and you were in fact teasing me with this guy attached ->

Anyhow, you are right.

BTW I also have the first solo album from Hammill, but after a short enthusiastic period feel that I am losing interest a bit. I assume other albums are not only piano and voice.

I'll clarify...Still Life is more in line with Godbluff than it is with Pawn Hearts.

I think you are referring to Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night and not Fool's Mate...correct?Yes that lp is stripped down a bit, but listen to the last tune again...(In the) Black Room/The Tower.....great piece of Prog...if you are referring to Fool's Mate, then I am surprised you thought it as only guitar and piano given the guest musicians on that one. Also, it is not one of his better works.

Silent Corner and The Empty Stage and In Camera are probably more your cup of tea, although Silent Corner has its stripped down tunes as well...the highlights of that lp are Modern, Red Shift and A Louse is not a Home. If you can excuse Hammill for not making a pure prog effort on these lps, then you may find(as I did) to appreciate the raw emotion on these....especially Chameleon.

Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night it is and it is certainly not a bad album. The last track is indeed very much VDGG.

A Lous is not a Home is, as I understood, a solo song from Hammill. Yet it appears on the remastered 2005 version of Godbluff as bonus track.

Choices, choices.... I think I will check out Still Life first and then move on to Hammills solo pieces. Enough to keep me busy for a while.
