As much as I like the new Beth Gibbons album, this is between Boys for Pele, Post, Never For Ever, and Easter. I vote for Björk this time. Underrated album.

I so wish this was multiple choice, a display of very excellent tastes here. ;) I actually don't know all of these,, but the one I know are very good. Sorry if one considers this post too long (I like details and I never had the genius for saying much in few words, unfortunately, or developed the skill enough).
My first thought was Anna von Hausswolff's The Miraculous, which is an album I have played dozens of times and actually got the most play from me of any von Hauuswoff album from me. And for another lupine songstress, Pain Is Beauty is my favourite Chelsea Wolfe album. Her 2024 album took some time to click. Only listened to it a few times and needs more spins for me to properly evaluate. I don't like to rate albums until I feel that I have internalised them. Until they become a part of me, so I rarely have low ratings because those don't get enough attention to not only be felt, but truly absorbed, and some form of osmosis like process. Björk's Post is one of my very favourite albums by her. That and Homogenic especially for the studio, and Debut, and my favourite lives by here involve music of those. "Isobel", which I first heard outside the context of the album Post, was love at first listen. PJ Harvey's To Bring You My Love is a superb album and the one of these I would most likely refer to as a masterpiece. A very strong classic of the 90s, imo. Susanne Sundfør's The Silicone Veil is a wonderful album and one of my very favourites by here. This was my favourite album by her at first, but I have been listening the most to Ten Love Songs over the last year or so. I really like that Weyes Blood album, in my top three of hers. And being an album guy AND a song guy, "Do You Need My Love" is a favourite song of mine by Natalie Mering. If I could go to any concert this year, it would be one by Weyes Blood. Not only do I love her music, but so does my wife, and that's something we could appreciate together. While I love various albums by Julia Holter, Ekstasis 92012) is the earliest of her albums that has excites me. I adore have You in My Wilderness and Aviary, and Something in the Room She Moves is one of my top albums of this year. I listened to St, Vincent's Strange Mercy for the first time very recently, and also like that. It needs more spins. I voted for her Actor before, and I like her All Born Screaming album from 2024. I especially love the title track to her latest (it is quite over-the-top). Marry Me, her first is another fave of mine form her. I like Kate Bush's Never for Ever very much although it never got as much playtime for me as the next two albums, The Dreaming and Hounds of Love or the debut, but never say never forever. Patti Smith's Easter I have liked, but don't now recall as well as other albums in the poll. I have not heard that Laurie Anderson since I was in high school, but I liked it then. I still adore her debut. I could go for a number of these easily, but today I go with Beth Gibbons for Lives Outgrown. Not only is it my album of 2024, but I listened to it again yesterday or the day before and my appreciation grew even more. Ultimately I particularly would have liked to give all seven of these a vote today. Bjork - Post Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown P J Harvey - To Bring You My Love Anna von Hausswolff - The Miraculous Susanne Sundfor - The Silicone Veil Weyes Blood - Front Row Seat to Earth Chelsea Wolfe - Pain Is Beauty Edited by Logan - January 17 2025 at 10:22 |

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson
