I hope to discover Kraut Rock albums that I am not aware of. I like Agitation Free, Can, Amon Duul II, Dom, and Dzyan. I like, but don't love Neu and Popol Vuh. I'm into the folk, jazz, space, drums, Middle Eastern feel, and the guitars of Kraut Rock. Not the drones and electronica.
Name your ten favorite Kraut Rock albums...even the drone and electronica-laden ones. I hope to fill out my top ten with suggestions from you guys.

I wish I could help you out but unfortunately I haven't gotten very far with this subgenre yet. I have a bunch of the early Ash Ra Tempel albums and I've heard a little bit of Can but that's about it. The first Ash Ra Tempel album is really great though so if you don't know that one then definitely check it out. I also like Kraan but I guess they were more fusion or jazz rock and not really Krautrock. Eloy and Grobschnitt are great too but again not really Kraut but more like symph prog. I'm sure others will give you some proper top ten lists and you'll get some great recommendations. I'll be keeping an eye out too.

Hi,
Too many to count in my book ... but I seem to go back time and again to "Dance of the Lemmings" and "Yeti", and then "Wolf City" and then "Ege Bamyasi" and "Tago Mago" ... although I would never leave behind many others ... Guru Guru's first 4 albums deserve the mention. Eloy was very nice. Ash Ra Tempel. Popol Vuh. Grobschnitt. The hardest part is not including Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze in all this ... they are the absolute giants that will be forever remembered.

I'll do a baker's dozen, and could be other choices...
Dom - Edge of Time Brave New World - Impressions on Reading Aldous Huxley Can - Ege Bamyasi Faust - Faust IV Ash Ra Tempel - Ash Ra Tempel Holger Czukay - Movies Popol Vuh - In Den Gärten Pharaos Amon Düül II - Yeti Sergous Golowin - Lord Krishna Von Goloka Harmonia - Musik von Harmonia NEU! - NEU! Agitation Free - Malesch Yatha Sidhra - A Meditation Mass And everything Kosmischer Läufer although I think of think of this Kosmische-take as fitter for Progressive Electronic. I recommend you try Brave New World if you have not already. |

I could have listed ten other albums and still be pleased. Can - Ege Bamyası (but any of the first six is a strong candidate) The Cosmic Jokers - Galactic Supermarket Faust - So Far Amon Düül II - Yeti Deuter - D Agitation Free - Malesch Popol Vuh - Nosferatu (Original Soundtrack) Embryo - Steig Aus (but I could have gone with a handful of others by them) Ash Ra Tempel - Ash Ra Tempel Brave New World - Impressions on Reading Aldous Huxley As for that Middle Eastern, Folk, Jazz etc... feel, I reccomend loads and loads of Embryo |

I forgot Kraan's self-titled debut!... and Kollektiv's archival release SWF-Sessions Volume 5...
-now
I've cheated and mentioned 16 albums. But while I'm here the trippy one
off's by Dom (Edge of Time), Code III (Planet of Man) and and
Kalacakra (Crawling to Lhasa) are wonderful as well.

If you're looking for ethno-fusion, then's here's a Krautrock band for inclusion.
BETWEEN An international Krautrock band based in Munich with an intriguing blend of ethno-fusion that falls somewhere in Between ancient "serious music" and modern "popular music." It's ideal music for listening to whilst puffing away on a Turkish hookah pipe, although I didn't inhale. 1971: Between - Einstieg - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yCJyb0OYBM 1973: Between - And the Waters Opened - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nb0uFG8AzGAwh_nKt0ykiNyeDRImN1dCg 1974: Between - Dharana - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieoiO46LCtI 1975: Between - Hesse Between Music - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQiokW-Ob9E 1977: Between - Contemplation - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_l6VoOlX6SaY5rFEP9xN_azEG2v6zSllg4 1980: Between - Silence Beyond Time - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJiqpFCD6vo |
