Topic: DT vs Symphony X Posted: October 20 2005 at 03:10 |
Its argued that both these groups are pretty similar in style, personally, I think they both are horrible but thats only becouse I dont like prog-metal in general so any comment I make will be biased and unfare. So I leave it to prog-metal fans to decide (and I hope nobody ever says that Ive done nothing for the prog-metal community)

Just out of curiosity: Why did you create this poll if you like neither of those two bands?

Well, thats becouse I feel that Ive always been hard on prog-metal fans and I feel that I should atleast do something for them becouse even though our definitions of prog may differ, we still consider ourselves prog lovers and that my friend is what counts. In the end we are all the same no matter what genre of prog one prefers and trust me if there were ever a debate on other musical forms(Rap, pop, etc) we will all be fighting on the same side.

I'd have to agree, this is quite possibly the most sensible Dream Theater poll i have ever seen here. Dream Theater is actually compared to a progressive metal band, figure that out.
Anyways, i voted Dream Theater. The creativity, musicianship, and structure of Dream Theater rapes anything that Symphony X has ever done. Put Symphony X up against a legitimate progressive metal band, and they will probably lose. Well maybe Symphony X could beat Evergrey...

DT all the way. They were the first metal band i got into as well as Prog
Metal. Symphony X is jsut too mainstream sounding in my opinion. Plus DT
has Portnoy and Petrucci! Tremendous amount of skill.
