As many of you know, I'm maintaining a release calendar at my website. To continue the tradition of new releases announcements here in the forum, I thought I'd implement a nice weekly export (might make it bi-weekly, depending on how many releases there are). So here they are, all new releases this week. First only PA releases, then other prog or prog-related releases at AP, then all the rest. Enjoy, and let me know what you think about this! If you want to contribute, please either add some content at AP yourself (artists, releases, ratings, genre assignments, blurbs etc.) or mention any corrections or additions in this thread. Check out the dynamic calendar page here: https://awesomeprog.com/calendar PA Releases
Non-PA Prog/Adj Releases
Non-PA Non-Prog/Unknown Releases

Julia Holter's Something in the Room She Moves has been a particularly anticipated release for me. I had listened to the advance releases singles from it and was not too enthralled, but I know that I couldn't really judge the album by those or judge those well outside the context of the album.
I've been a huge enthusiast for her Aviary (2018), love Have You in my Wilderness (2015), and Loud City Song 92013), and Ekstasis (2012) are both wonderful to my tastes. She may not be Prog, but she does make progressive experimental art music and if she were a little more rock, then I might suggest her for Crossover (I do most place her in the art pop category). Mind you, I don't think of Kate Bush as Prog either, which doesn't affect my love for Bush's and Holter's music. |

A great deal of work must have gone in to compiling that list Mike... well done!
I can't believe there are 39 Prog & Related releases, all on the same day!

^ The list is generated automatically, but I usually spend a couple of hours per week adding releases and adding links. It's only 14 Prog & Related releases though, the others are either non-prog or unknown, waiting to be tagged, as the heading says

^ Inspired by you, Prog adjacent has become part of my vernacular. I like it as a term to think of of a lot of art (and experimental music that I like). Yes, there is prog related, but adjacent is a satisfying term for an act like Julia Holter for me. Mind you, there no clear delineation when it comes to Prog and related music....
Anyway, I appreciate these lists, and I like the format. |

^ I've been thinking about the prog status, maybe I'll introduce some more options shortly. For example, some releases might be "partially" prog (too much of the music clearly non-prog), others might be "borderline" prog, and some might be truly "adjacent", as in appealing to fans of progressive music, but still not "really" prog in terms of style. Just a nuance, but maybe worth offering as an option.

Added a few more releases ... I currently have about 2000+ candidates for 2024 that I could add, but I'm trying to filter for genre and rating, which is difficult for really new releases.

I'm sure you have an easy answer for this, but as a matter of interest, where do you collate your data from to know about there being over 2000 album releases for the current year? From the record companies themselves?

^ No - I am scanning PA, RYM, Sputnik and some other music websites for new releases. There are much more than 2000 releases for 2024 already, but most of these are junk, as in not proper releases, self-released demos and so on. Nowadays it's so easy to release music, even I have a (demo) track on Spotify.
But RYM is currently the most useful source: I'm trying to strike a balance between just blindly adding all new releases and only adding awesome prog releases.
