This is the twelfth topic in a series with one track per album for a set of given years. In this it is one track per album for the years 1965 through 1969. I hope to see some of your favourite tracks from those years. If it seems daunting, consider just listing, say, five or ten tracks from the years. You can always make another list later, or add to it later.

As for my list, I decided to only include one track from one album per act for my list. Gainsbourg gets mentioned twice with two collaborations.

Where it all starts for me
The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows
then we get A Day In The Life
plus It's All Too Much (and it certainly was!!)

Outside of the remarkable music and of that life changing band other music did apparently exist
Love - Alone Again Or (from my favourite sixties album Forver Changes)
Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made For Walking (love that descending bass line!)
The Who - My Generation (the best rock n roll band ever?)
Colosseum - Valentyne Suite (oft overlooked jazz rock classic from 1969 inspired by the Moon landings)
The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset ( lovely sentiments)
Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin (ft Swindon's very own Justin Hayward)
Simon Dupree and The Big Sound - Kites ( Derek, Ray and Phil get something going)
The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations ( the genius Brian Wilson is well evident)
The Rolling Stones - Paint It Black (not a Stones fan but love this!)
The Nice - Rondo ( Mozart meets Brubeck and then both are waylayed by Emerson!)
King Crimson - 21st Century Shizoid Man (no comment needed)
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love (another ground breaker)
The Herd - From The Underworld (ft 17 yr old Peter Frampton)
Mamas and Papas - California Dreaming (never tire of hearing this, fantastic vocal harmonies)
Fleetwood Mac - Albatross (superb guitar from Peter Green, strange how this band eventually morphed into the soft rock of 1977's rumours)
Pink Floyd - See Emily Play (probably the best of the late sixties psychedelic releases)
The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown - Fire (great keys by Vince Crane)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Purple Haze (again no comment needed)

Thanks Richard and Will.

^^ Hearing "Peaches en Regalia" on the radio played, I think, a seminal role in me wanting to explore more adventurous music. And it is such a joyous track.

^ I really appreciate the commentary to go with your choices. I thought of that Nancy Sinatra song too, but then forgot as I am prone to do. Love it.

My favourite song Nancy Sinatra sung actually is "You Only Live Twice" (1967) from the James Bond film. John Barry wrote the score and a friend of my father wrote the lyrics. The Bond song I most return to is "We Have All the Time in the World" (1969) from On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which is sung by Louis Armstrong and composed by Barry with Hal David lyrics. It's been my ultimate procrastination song, and especially when I had papers due, and I was down to the wire to get it done, I would play that song and smile. While both of those Bond ones Barry composed and I had tended to avoid doubles by artists (to hopefully avoid preparing a really long list), I'm adding those Bong (erm, typo, I meant Bond, plenty of bong songs of the period) songs to my playlist.

Interesting! I'm quite partial to a bit of Carly Simon (she has some nice bits!) so would go for Nobody Does It Better. However for my sins I do really like Adele's Skyfall as well. Smile
I always felt that Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World could have been a Bond theme somehow , although it wasn't.
Oh and there is of course Macca's Live and Let Die. Great production and brings back nice memories of a very young me and my Mum going to the cinema to see Roger Moore's first outing as Bond.

I instantly regretted not including Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit. What a tune and seems to have been on countless films and TV shows, I guess they must get some very nice royalties for it!

Also should have included some Simon and Garfunkel. I would go for Sound Of Silence, my favourite Paul Simon lyric.

^ Interesting, to me, that you bring up "White Rabbit" as I was going to comment on that too. That actually is one of the first that came to mind, was going to include it, and I love it, but I opted to and regretted choosing a "deeper" track from the same album. Partially because i was not be so true to myself in terms of what I like best. This decision ultimately was because I did a list some time back with "White Rabbit" and a poster was telling me that it was a poor choice. I said something like it's a good choice for me because I really like it, and it's a stone-cold classic. Anyway, I decided to present something less known, and for the playlist which I listen to, as it's one I still like but have not heard nearly so much.

Drew and I have a few snaps, one of which, "The Valentyne Suite”, is on all of our lists (and "White Rabbit" should have been on all of ours). Drew and I also share "Peaches en Regalia" (along with Will), Pentangle's "Hunting Song" and I am most pleased to see Ultimate Spinach's "MindFlowers" on both of our lists.

One off Richard's list that I wish I had included is "Paint It Black" (also not a Stones fan really, but I love that track.)

I love "Nobody Does It Better" and I should have thought to include that in my 70s list. It's also one of my wife's favourite songs, and I really like "Skyfall" and of course "Live and Let Die". I have thought that about "The Man Who Sold the World" (one of my very, very favourite Bowie tunes) and the title sounds like a Bond film.

One I love written as a Bond tune that I think very sadly was not chosen is Radiohead's Spectre.

What a great period of music and unlike various other timeframes, I am confident that I would really enjoy everything that has been listed in this topic.
