I voted for Pink Floyd simply because you gave it 3 stars.

Hi,

Strange seeing JA listed here, as they would be, one of the least psychedelic bands, although many think that White Rabbit is psychedelic, Grace has always said that it isn't anything of the like at all, and I tend to agree. I suppose that the last line is the problem in the song, but I always felt like what she was talking about was that it didn't matter what the situation was ... it always was weird and upside down ... and the song? The same!

Very little of JA's in their albums is actually psychedelic (though there are fun things), though I would consider the solo albums by Kantner and Slick as more of that than not ... when you hear the Baron album ... it's difficult to ignore the whole drug thing, though the album's lyrics in place tend to confuse rather than clear things up! But Grace in her book makes it clear that being a mother and some responsibilities, the taking of drugs would be very tough and not advisable ... and I suppose that is a very with it feeling.

Wondering if TGD's first album should not be here, but I will listen to it again today.

I keep having thoughts of Spirit's 12 Dreams, but that is actually less psychedelic and more satirical of many musical styles that were on the radio dial at the time. That's 1970, though ... and I think they did not want to be marked out as psychedelic, instead of musically sound and clear, which they were. I think the only band that didn't care either way, was The Grateful Dead.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

A clear win for Pink Floyd then which comes as no surprise to anyone but me. Embarrassed

I voted for Jefferson Airplane - the album I've listened to the most out of all of those listed.

Doesn't really matter much what the artist herself thinks. It's normal that they're not comfortable with the labels "we" use for them and genres we lump them into. Surrealistic Pillow and White Rabbit fits perfectly in what most people think of as early Psychedelic 1960's music. What would have been really strange was to leave Jefferson Airplane out. An essential part of the story would have been missing.

Something Else and More of the Monkees feels a lot more strange to see here imo.

The Monkees three Bubblegum-Pop albums are just here as poll-fillers, but I like them all the same. I have a secret admiration for The Partridge Family too, but don't tell anyone.  Embarrassed

I like their bus. It turns me into a calculator and a tube at the same time.

Oh I like all of three Monkees-albums in the poll and think that Headquarters and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones sort of fit in here.

I've taken the liberty of replacing the "More of The Monkees" album with The Mamas & the Papas "Deliver" album as I forgot to include it earlier. Not that it'll make any difference to the poll result at this late stage. Smile

Really? For me, Surrealistic Pillow is the most psychedelic album in the poll, which is why I voted for it. Big smile
