... Or it can go somewhat over ten minutes, but please try for it not to go much over that time.

I thought it would interesting to do a topic where we list some of our favourite tracks off albums that have been released in the 2020s with each list having no more than one track per artist/band (if you want to make a second list later, go ahead) and with a limit of ten minutes or somewhat over. My longest here is World's End Girlfriend's "Ave Mari" , an album I only heard yesterday for the first time, and I chose the longest track at 10:38, but it is my early favourite, and I figured, meh, close enough. I might do a longer tracks topic later.

These are various one I like:

- Aksak Maboul - Spleenétique (Figures, 2020)
- ALL HANDS_MAKE LIGHT - The Sons And Daughters Of Poor Eternal (Darling the Dawn, 2023)
- Beach House - Modern Love Stories (Once Twice Melody, 2022)
- Black Country, New Road - The Place Where He Inserted the Blade (Ants From Up There, 2022)
- black midi - Ascending Forth (Cavalcade, 2021)
- Breidablik - Himinglæva ok Kolga (Alduorka, 2022)
- Ciśnienie - HotRS (The Brass Album, 2020)
- Current 93 - If a City... (If a City Is Set Upon a Hill, 2022)
- Richard Dawson - Museum (The Ruby Cord, 2022)
- Dear Laika - Lilac Moon, Reflected Sun (Pluperfect Mind, 2022)
- Greg Foat - Underwater Fantasy (Psychosynthesis, 2021)
- Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Fire at Static Valley (G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END!, 2021)
- Jenny Hval - American Coffee (Classic Objects, 2022)
- Yaya Kim - Providence of Providence (a.k.a YAYA, 2022)
- Kikagaku Moyo - Cardboard Pile (Kumoyo Island, 2022)
- King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Blue Morpho (Butterfly 3000, 2021)
- Kosmischer Läufer - Die stille Sonne (Tiel 2) (Volume 5, 2023)
- Lingua Ignota - I Who Bend the Tall Grasses (Sinner Get Ready, 2021)
- Melody's Echo Chamber - Alma_The Voyage (Emotional Eternal, 2022)
- Klaus Morlock - The Still Point (The Memory Chamber, 2020)
- Niechęć - Niechęć (Unsubscribe, 2022)
- otay:onii - Blackheart Breakables (Míng Míng, 2021)
- Pan Daijing - Part One - A Raving Still (Tissues, 2022)
- Perfume Genius - Teeth (Ugly Season, 2022)
- Bruno Pernadas - Step Out of the Light (Private Reasons, 2022)
- PoiL & Junko Ueda - Kujô shakujô, Pt. 1 (PoiL / Ueda, 2023)
- Monika Roscher Bigband - Creatures of the Dawn (Witchy Activities and the Maple Death, 2023)
- The Smile - Pana-Vision (A Light for Attracting Attention, 2022)
- Squid - G.S.K. (Bright Green Field, 2021))
- Susanne Sundfør - Ṣānnu yārru lī (Blómi, 2023)
- Swans - Michael Is Done (The Beggar, 2023)
- Uboa - The Flesh of the World (The Flesh of the World, 2020)
- Vanishing Twin - Big Moonlight (Ookii Gekkou) (Ookii Gekkou, 2021)
- Anna von Hausswolff - Persefone (All Thoughts Fly, 2020)
- Weyes Blood - It's Not Just Me, It's Everybody (And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow, 2022)
- Witch - By the Time You Realize (Zango, 2023)
- World's End Girlfriend - Ave Maria (Resistance & the Blessing 2023)
- Yo La Tengo - Sinatra Drive Breakdown (This Stupid World, 2023)

Here's the playlist of the music I listed in case anyone wants to check out any of the tracks:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXcp9fYc6K4JM96KHwOM2XMxfmzjX_3fx

Nether that Klaus Morlock album nor track is on youtube, so here is the bandcamp track: https://klausmorlock.bandcamp.com/track/the-still-point-2

That track alone of Pan-Daijing I did not see on youtube, so here it is at bandcamp: https://pan-daijing.bandcamp.com/track/part-one-a-raving-still

Hope to see your choices. And I hope we get some comments on some of each other's choices.

EDIT: While having lots of embeds is likely to cause issues for people, and I don't plan to add people's choices to my playlist as I sometimes have done, please consider highlighting a couple of tracks that you are into now. I'll do these tracks because it had been a while since I last listened to either of these albums and playing these tracks again made me appreciate them all the more. I have not paid nearly as much attention to that Pernadas album as his Those Who Throw Objects at the Crocodiles Will Be Asked to Retrieve Them from 2016.

Bruno Pernadas - Step Out of the Light (Private Reasons, 2022)

I think Bruno Pernadas is excellent. AT RYM the album is tagged as Progressive Pop, Psychedelic Pop, Neo-Psychedelia, Dream Pop, Exotica, Jazz Pop, Space Age Pop

Beach House - Modern Love Stories (Once Twice Melody, 2022)

The album is tagged at RYM as Dream Pop, Neo-Psychedelia, Ethereal Wave, Indietronica, Synthpop

I would like to make an Interactive Poll at some time with two of your choices each from this topic.

Your lists can be as short or as long as you like, but I would love to explore your contemporary tastes a bit, and maybe discover some new great-for-me music.

EDIT: Silly nOOb mistake, I note that I wrote this as 2020's tracks when I should have written this as 2020s, meaning I want to cover this decade so far (so far depends on when one see this topic) not just the year 2020.

^ Thanks. I decided to make a playlist for yours, mostly for me, as I already knew some of those from you and like them. I made this publicly unlisted unless one has the link.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXcp9fYc6K4KqFb54xNXVNOqC-ANeRP_u

Like with my list, some tracks I did not find on youtube, so here are the bandcamp song pages (think I might have missed one, but too dizzy now to check carefully):

Ske - Sudo: https://skeskeskeskeske.bandcamp.com/track/sudo

French TV - Desire and Consequence: https://frenchtv.bandcamp.com/track/desire-and-consequence

That Ske track off Insolubilia is very cool. I have 1000 Autunni in my collection.

And I like the French TV. I have a few French TV alums in my collection: The Violence of Amateurs having been my most listened French TV album. Anyway, I dig this new one.

As for your others, I really like the Rascal Reporters track, the one from Eyeless Owl, as well as Mats Őberg's Dream Loops.

Greg, I skimmed through your 36 tracks. We are lucky to have so much great modern music to choose from. And we both enjoy finding new music to us. Yet our musical worlds are very different. So with that said, I enjoyed...

Aksak Maboul - An upbeat playful song, quite different from the others.
Bruno Pernadas - Nice arrangements. Cool song.

Looking forward to more participation.

^ Thanks, Will. I would have thought that the Aksak Maboul track would most fit in with your choices, and Bruno Pernadas is one I have thought you might like for certain music. I like some of his music because I enjoy loungey, jazzy exotica and space-age music so much. He makes plenty of happy music I would say.

What's interesting to me is that I actually enjoy so much of what you like, but it tends not to be the kinds of music to which I commonly most gravitate or choose to expose or focus on. My first love, by the way, was classical music and kinds of soundtrack music (I loved Jerry Goldsmith as a youngster and still do).

I think of the music you like as being more direct, more commonly on the jazz side, often more consistently energetic and more consistent period, and often more jaunty and performance-focused as in virtuoso musicianship, maybe fiery solos.... That which I like tends to be moodier, more melancholy, soundtrack-y, more minor keys, less direct, more subtle and textured perhaps, more atmospheric, more ambient, and more surrealistic and impressionistic than most. I'd sooner expect the kind of music you most listen to at a good bar and mine maybe playing in some fevered dream. My favourite albums often have significant contrast and textures and my son has observed plenty of switches between minor and major keys in music to which I listen. I think it's rather like how I have favoured art house film, and this is kind of like the soundtracks to art house and Indie films. EDIT: Oh, and I love groove, and this often involves plenty of repetition (I like Kosmische/ Krautrock). And I often love music which may incrementally build to crescendos (sometimes it builds to this kind of wall of noise).

I do hope there is more participation, and I fear that my initial list being so long instead of doing a top 5 or ten or fifteen might have scared some people off -- that and my sexy avatar. I'm very happy if people only choose a few to share. And then I might add two or three choices from people's lists if enough opt in and recommend those for a poll.

^ Thanks Drew, now that's quite a collection. Lots of stuff I have looked into and really like.

While I focused mostly on music that most fit my most current of tastes, and was trying to keep my list on the shorter side (originally I was going to go with a top 20), there were some lamentable omissions in my list. As soon as I started with your list with Magick Brother & Mystic Sister, that ia one of which I should have recalled. I really like that album and "Utopia" is a great choice. Die Kaht was one I was trying to recall. Amoeba Split, Zopp, and Homnculus Res I considered, but just have not been as into them of late. Great stuff regardless, and I figured those would be covered. iNFiNiEN almost made my list. I wish I had remembered Oiapok.

I love your choice from black midi. Amazing how young these guys are. Swans, black midi, Breidablik, Anna von Hausswolff and Squid are the acts we share in common in our lists. It's very nice for me to see that your list covers acts both on my and on Will's list.

I likely will present another list of tracks anon. Thanks for all the effort.

I'll contribute. I tried to avoid some artists already mentioned. Ended up with more acts not on PA than on PA, though I would say they are all art/experimental/prog in some ways. I appreciate these threads because a number of these artists that I do like and listen to come from the posters here. I kept my list to 20 with a playlist at the end.

OVRFWD - Firelight (2020)
Elephant Stone - Dawn, Day, Dusk (2023)
Ulaan Passerine - Along the Pine Boards (2023)
Rain Parade - Last Rays of a Dying Sun (2023)
Ghost Power - Panic in the Isles Splendor (2022)
All Them Witches - See You Next Fall (2020)
Consider the Source - This Is the Way (2021)
Lespecial - Tonberry (2020)
Orchestre Puissant Marcel Duchamp - So Many Things (To Feel Guilty About) (2021)
Catherine Graindorge - Lockdown (2021)
we broke the weather - Rot King (2022)
Go Go Machine Orchestra - Atom (2023)
Ventifacts - Azimuth of Sunrise (2021)
Djam Karet - Arrival (2022)
Coreyah - Til the Dawn (2020)
Vespero - LOS (2020)
Nolan Potter - Preeminent Minds (2021)
Onségnen Ensemble - I'm Here No Mattet What (2022)
DONGYANG GAZUPA - Critical Point (2022)
TEKE::TEKE - Hoppe (2023)

Many thanks, Ian and George. While it would be too time-consuming for me to add all of these to a playlist, I rather would like to, especially seeing George's list which has some fanatastic-to-me forum discoveries due to some topics like Orchestre Puissant Marcel Duchamp, TEKE::TEKE, and Vespero mayhaps?, and I think DONGYANG GAZUPA (love that track). I do want to make a good system for keeping better track of such things, maybe a topic with every great new-to-me tracks that I discover through PA posters (and for others to do the same) as my memory which used to be really great at such things is not what it used to be by far. Or a spreadsheet document. I'm not a good documentarian or very organised period. I already started that one track per post topic before for trying to keep track of some music. I liked Firelight, George.

As for Ian's list: I tend to make mine off the top of my head, thus perhaps too many repeats of names, but had I put more thought into my list I think I would have remembered JG Thirlwell & Simon Steensland's Oscillospira and "Papal Stain" is one I recall best from it -- mostly because while that was one of my albums of the 2020 year, I checked that out again thanks to you. Pretty heavy stuff. On the long side, but "Redbug" is one I remember really enjoying for its Magma-like sound.

I love the kinds of lists, do discover music thanks to them, and I like comparing people's music interests and topics that act for me like music-listening rooms. Said it before, but basically at PA there was this nostalgic desire to get back to when my friends and I would listen to each other's music together and discover music that way and gain more appreciation for quite disparate music. That and things like the Interactive Polls have been wonderful for me. And in these kinds of topics it really can get me exploring music in my wheelhouse more deeply and can ignite some passions from acts I already knew well. For instance, I had not listened much to that Pernadas or Beachhouse before, but those became my songs of the day.

Many thanks for the participation. :)

Happy to participate.

Off the top of my head, ALL HANDS_MAKE LIGHT is one of my favorites this year, which I learned about from Greg. Pan Daijing was through a poll by Christian but he may have heard through Greg, vice versa, or independently (through the forums).

Bruno Pernadas I enjoyed in an Interactive Poll but had not looked more into.

I have enjoyed Them Moose Rush from Will in the past. Love that video. A really good modern power trio. I have been meaning to listen to more Eyeless Owl / Wippy Bonstack and the various related projects. Definitely learned about them in the forums.

Drew is prolific in his listening and I like reading his detailed reviews on the main site. Some overlapping tastes and some not, as with everyone.

Ian's recommendation of ULTRAPHAUNA had them among my top 10 or so for this year.

The forum definitely turned me on to Oscillospira. Though I don't remember who's post it was. It was in a thread about modern symphonic prog. I also went on a exploration of Thirlwell's Foetus material and I really like his Dystonia performed by the Mivos Quartet.

My inclusion of Nolan Potter came from a suggestion in an Interactive Poll.

Good stuff everywhere.

^ Thanks, George. As you liked "Spaceways 70" off Pernadas' 2016 Those Who Throw Objects... album, I think you'll like "Step Out of the Light" off 2022's Private Reasons. Those have been stand-outs per my tastes, various others at the forum I would expect to prefer other music of his. I was intrigued by your Pan Daijing comment as I have listed it in various topics and remember discovering it due to trawling the 2022 charts (EDIT: I should have specified, the rateyourmusic charts which is a significant source of discovery for me). I put it in a topic about two weeks after Christian (Lewian) had it in the Interactive Poll and I participated in that and had two of my choice songs in this topic as my picks there (and I think mentioned some others). Looking at that poll which was done by Nick (I miss Nick a lot), what a terrific listing. CLICK It looks like I did not vote for Pan Daijing, and I think it moved more into my subconscious and then when I noticed it at RYM not long after, that might well have been why I decided to check it out. The power of suggestion.... And of not having the best of memories now.

By the way, with this and the decades poll, I was thinking before that I might take the songs that people most wish to highlight and use this in a poll as a different approach to making an interactive poll. But that would complicate things.

I updated my list and playlist with more choices. In the first list I deliberately tried to overlimit my choices, I think, and missed including some I had planned to. I don't like the time limit suggestion, and so I am doing away with that restriction now. I did that because I had plans to turn this into an Interactive Poll with the top on or two choices from each, and so limiting length made sense to me so we could listen to each other's better without it taking super long to do so.

Anyway, a lot of this following list is the same as my first list, I expanded on that for a Prog poll, and I have added some more albums (some which had not come out yet when I made the topic) and changed at least one track from my list to one that better suits me currently or because I could now choose my preferred tracks that are longer..

and this on bandcamp: https://amarxe.bandcamp.com/track/quiet-euphoria

I'm really pleased, impressed and grateful for the amount of choices that people went to the trouble to mention for this topic. There is so much great music here, and music for me to explore. With so much great music, it can be overwhelming, but I'd rather more fine music than less. :) Thanks. Oh, when I did the recent poll in Prog polls covering some of this, I had planned to do ones for others choices to highlight those, but I had forgotten just how many got mentioned here. Hope others will see things on people's list that they enjoy, maybe discover some music from this, and maybe list their own, be it five or many favourites.
