"The Last Day of Summer"
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052037/

Polish movie that I can watch every single year. Another great part is that it takes place on the coast - I love water, and the atmosphere in the movie, even though I usually think "bad script" when critics only talk about the cinematography. There's very little script. And I tend to favor dialogue-heavy movies, but this is still very good.

If you have any recommendations, I would be so grateful. Thanks!

The movie is on YouTube. I remember watching this the last time without any subtitles.

I don't understand your w/
What exactly are you looking for?
Do you mean films that only have two actors for the entire film, one man and one woman?

I think I get your drift... only 2 actors in the entire film; one male one female... no-one else?

If that's the case, then 'Venus In Fur': Roman Polanski

Of course, his 'Knife In The Water' is two men and one woman...

With the exception of a minor diversion, Bela Tarr's final masterpiece 'Turin Horse' would fit into this category, too.

Thank you so much, I'll look for it in a few minutes.

"Knife in the Water" is one of my favorite .. psychological thrillers. So much tension. No bullsh*t. No filler. I like it more than "Chinatown".. Speaking of, "The Tenant" (6/10) was just on TCM, so it might still be available on-demand for those in the US. And also made that year, was the better, but also existential "Mr. Klein" with Alain Delon.

I tried watching "Werckmeinster Harmonies", but I'll definitely give "Turin Horse" a chance (and maybe the others). Thank you.

If someone does know a great movie with a few seconds/minutes of minor characters, no big deal. Don't want to stifle the possibilities... Thanks again -- I just want to find a movie that interests me so much I drop everything and watch it.

Right. If there's a great movie you know with this line-up, but with a minor character or two for a few seconds (or hundreds of people in a crowd as the movie starts), I'd be appreciative if you could share.

I'll try to think of more, too.... Oh yeah.

"What Happened Was..." with Tom Noonan (directed by him, as well).

^^ That's my pleasure. I'm not sure what is most important to you; an intense drama between a man and a woman to the point where anyone else appearing is incidental, or the fact that you only want two people in the film full stop, with no exceptions. If it's the former, I can think of a few more, such as Certified Copy (Kiarostami) or Under The Bombs (Aractingi), the latter however might require a bit more thought... ooh, how about Scenes From A Marriage (Bergman)?

You may be interested in Julian Polsler's 'The Wall', a very intense affair, considering it's just one woman and her dog!

The Police Officer's Wife (Groning); Man, Woman and small Child.... domestic psychological violence; a very hard watch.

Gabrielle - Patrice Chereau fits your criteria exactly.

The following have very strong links between the main characters, with others incidental to their relationship:

Hors Satan - Bruno Dumont

Lady Chatterley - Pascale Ferran

Portrait of a Lady on Fire (Two women)

I'll try and dig up a few more...

not exactly what you are looking for, but you might still like it: "De Wisselwachter" ("The Pointsman") by Jos Stelling. there are a few interruptions from the postman or the locomotive driver and his engineer, but it is pretty much just the pointsman and this woman who erroneously gets out of the train with her luggage when the train stops at the pointsman's post. very little dialogue, but a lot of great silent interplay between the two (the scene with the rat is one of our favorite movie scenes of all time). the woman speaks only French, which the pointsman does not understand, so the two have difficulty communicating with each other. one of our favorite movies

One that comes to mind for me is a movie called Closet Land with Alan Rickman & Madeleine Stowe.
Dark film with some interesting twists.

Yeah, I don't mind the odd interruption, although someone elsewhere put "La Collectioneuse" (it has a handful of characters).

I'll definitely check these all out.. Here's one I thought of, "What Happened Was"... One man, one woman. No jump cuts - it's all in real-time. Dialogue heavy (which is what I usually like), but "The Last Day of Summer" is great, and it doesn't have much, but the looks said a lot, especially from the woman, who was the object of my desire.
