Please excuse if this post has been played before, but I'm on an early Motorpsycho kick and want to know which direction to turn next. (Just reviewed 2001's Phanerothyme and 2002's It's a Love Cult).
My Top five, so far, would be: 1. Phanerothyme 2. Behind the Sun 3. The Death-Defying Unicorn 4. Still Life with Eggplant 5. The All Is One but then, I mostly only know the band's 2010s output. Where should I go next? |

I only know the 10's but am a huge fan of their sound during that period. Been debating whether to get their "Kingdom Of Oblivion" record from 2021.

I have a great appreciation for Motorspycho and it'd been great to catch them live, but I've never really become a real fan. I think these are the ones I've enjoyed the most. As you can see from my list I don't think they've ever been better than in the last five years or so. Not bad for a band that debuted over 30 years ago. The All Is One The Tower Kingdom of Oblivion The Crucible Heavy Metal Fruit |

So far, your lists seem to indicate that Motorpsycho's peak and best period was in the 2010s (aside from a few Phanerothyme lovers like me.) Interesting!

I don't know enough... Very good: The Death-Defying Unicorn The Tower Little Lucid Moments I don't like their 2021 album that much, although it's OK and I could rank it fourth, and am not so keen on the stuff from the 90s that I've heard, so I'd need to listen to more to put a convincing top 5 together. I'm rather optimistic that I'd like some of the stuff I haven't heard, but they are hit and miss for me.

Not been a fan until the most recent album. The second track in particular features some of the most extraordinary playing I've heard for a long time.

Difficult question as they're probably one of my favourite bands ever and their discography being so diverse but approximately my top 5 would be something like this:
1. Angels and Daemons at Play 2. Blissard 3. Timothy's Monster 4. Little Lucid Moments 5. The Death Defying Unicorn Honourable mention the 1998 live album "Roadwork Vol. 1".

stopped following them coupla album cycles ago since everything they were releasing around that time sounded incredibly samey and formulaic to me. Still, loads of respect to them and my top-5 would probably look like this:
Heavy Metal Fruit (2010) Angels and Daemons at Play (1997) Still Life with Eggplant (2013) Black Hole/Blank Canvas (2006) Here Be Monsters (2016)
heh I mostly didn't like their 2000-2001-2002 output |
