This one's for the italian prog fans...

I just downloaded the english version of this TRUE MASTERPIECE of progressive music, with lyrics, I remind you, from Peter Hammill.

I found the album with Emule, the peer-to-peer program easily downloadable on your pc.

To my knowledge, "FELONA AND SORONA" was never released on CD, and this download sounds like the LP version (a vinyl in very good ocndition, indeed...).

You are probably right that the English version has not been released on cd but it's not a big loss because the original version is much better.

I have this english version too.

Rarely the english version is better than original, but in that case, I don't know what is better...

The problem with PFM and Le Orme versions in English is that to gain English speaking audience they release lyricsthat have no relation with the original version.

For example (And being more familiar with PFM translations)  La Luna Nuova (The New Moon) is extremely beautiful, and Sinfield translated it as Four Holes in the Ground, it's ridiculous, they never created a song about holes in the ground.

Via Lumiere (Lumiere Street) is translated ad Have your Cake and Beat it (????????)

The album La Isola di Niente (Nobody's Island) is translated as The World Became a World, it's ridiculous, a totally doifferent concept for the same music, but a concept that was never in the mind of the musicians when they created the music.

Music and lyrics are a whole unity, both are created to express an idea, you can't change it to whatever you want without killing the real nature of the album.

If the rest of the world does the effort to listen music in English why I talian music has to be translated, and if you have the need to listen it in English, better hire a person who can adapt the original idea to the new lyrics.

Iván

I did the same, and it lasted no more than a week. Now I have the complete album, but just for curiosity because don't think Tagliapietra's voice were appropriate to british sounds and pronunciation...

Speaking of emule - I've just downloaded the masters' video, when they play first two tracks, and Felona is sung in English?

I've just read the english lyrics and finally understood the whole greatness of this album (I was struck by the beauty of music but we should not neglect the second equal aspect of songs, which is lyrics)

Wouldn't it be great if they played it live once but with a vocal duo of Aldo and maestro Peter Hammill?

and Tortellino, could you give me the name of the file of english version of this brilliant album?

yet you still have time!

You are right: I have always been puzzled (and definitely annoyed) with this kind of weird translations...and we're talking about Peter Sinfield, who has always been a fine lyrics writer!

Hello from Italy!
I just read in these days an interview to Michi Dei Rossi, the drummer of Le
Orme. He say that only 5000 copies of the english version of "Felona e
Sorona" were printed. Of course there is non cd available of this album.

Bye
