It's decent after the first listen, will come up with an opinion after more listens.
But today's release has been dampened....

Lots of familiar PT stuff going on here. Great production, as always. Decent mix of heavy and lite tunes. Personal favourites... Track 1 - Harridan Track 3 - Rats Return Track 5 - Herd Culling Overall...a solid 7/10, maybe 7.5/10

It arrived in the post today, and first listen as I type this.
First impressions are a decent album, which is a good sign that repeated listens will turn out to be a bloody good album!

It's good. 3.75 stars. Sounds samey, like PT. I do enjoy the heavy riff on "Chimera's Wreck" which is definately influenced by Rush.
Fave song "Rats Return". |

Fantastic album, very different from what I was expecting from them, tbh.
There's a lot of SW solo work influence there, especially with how the bass guitar is played, but Richard textures is also more present and there's not much metal elements in it anymore. Probably their most complex work (lots of influence from the HCE and GfD era and not so much catchy choruses) and their most "textural" work since Signify days too. I'll never enjoy SW solo career as much as PT lol

After one listen I'd put it in the pretty decent to pretty good category. Way better than The Incident, although that's a low bar, so from that aspect alone I'm glad this thing exists. Not really sure why this needed to be PT over another solo album of his (although it is obviously quite different to his most recent solo outputs). But definitely something I will want to listen to again.

I like it on initial listen. Definitely a much better ending (if it is) than The Incident. It does come across a bit like the band came up with a checklist of what goes into a Porcupine Tree album and made sure to check off as many things as possible.

I gave one listen to the album on spotify and I sort of didn't catch anything particularly noteworthy... but then the same happened the first time I heard Porcupine Tree online (it was not until I got my first albums, Coma Divine and Wilson's Grace for Drowning, that I really came to like his music). However, by listening to this album I remembered I hadn't even checked out Wilson's last solo album (having ever less albums physically available on stores doesn't help at all), so I gave that one a listen too, and unexpectedly I think I liked that one better... still I need to check them both out more to be sure.

Very interesting indeed. I like the part where he said he basically just lied about PT being over. lol

“Everybody lies”, Dr. House.
Done my first two listenings and I like the album. It’s certainly PT and sometimes I wonder if Steven puts on his “PT voice” when recording for the band. I like The Incident too, so I didn’t expect anything else really. The question is how I feel about it after 10+ listenings. |

I've seen so many posts about this album on social media over the last few weeks, I thought it was already out. Might as well give it a listen then.

#1 album on some UK chart listing I've seen.......Pretty cool for the prog scene. This for PT and then all the hype around the #1 song with Running Up That Hill and Kate Bush.
The best thing for Kate is she owns all the rights to her songs, she will be getting some really nice royalty checks I have read, I think I read around $250K a week for being the #1 streamed song for the past several weeks. |

I haven't heard the album yet & I know this is a nit picky thing but I gotta say I don't like the cover art.
Big white box with black text in a very generic font? I know that are probably going for the whole minimalist " so bad it's good thing" but it really doesn't wok . It's just so bad , it's bad. (sorry , occupational hazard, I'm a graphic designer)

Yes, it would be wrong to be churlish, and it is a cause for celebration, although I do not think that we are witnessing any significant prog sales revival here. We can hope that it turns some more onto the genre, but Kate was sent to number one on the back of Stranger Things, I think on Notflicks, and Wilson has made quite a big thing on his past couple of albums of building up a fan base which would like his prog meets pop meets modern electronica stuff, and I say this as someone who rather enjoyed those albums, as my reviews confirm. Before C/C, their highest chart position was 23, so there is not a massive Barbieri or Harrison fan base out there, but a Wilson one.
