If you grew up anytime between the late-1970s to the early-1990s, this band was inescapable, particularly in the US. While these albums could not even remotely be described as prog, the songwriting and musicianship were far above average. I'd put the guitar-playing of Neal Schon and the drumming of Steve Smith up against almost anyone in prog. For some reason I've never been able to define, the nostalgia/sentimentalism factor is extremely high with these albums.

It was actually a difficult decision to choose my favorite from these eight. Trial by Fire has some of the band's highest highs, but also some of its lowest lows. I'm going with Escape, which was the album that made me a fan, even though I have issues with some of the songs on "Side 2".

Which is your favorite? And does this band elicit any nostalgic feelings for you?

Greatest hits. I can't say i like any Journey albums all the way through. Even the early ones are a bit yawny.

I like Journey, I will vote once I listen a bit (time allowing), I could easily vote for like three albums here. LOL

I'll throw a vote Infinity's way.  I am a big Journey fan (possibly their biggest fan here on PA).  I've probably seen them live about 10 times...ironically never with Steve Perry though.  The first 4 or 5 times were with Steve Augeri and the rest of the times were with the new guy, Arnel Pineda.

Infinity was my favorite, then the next two in line.  But after that, things quickly went downhill fast.  The only Journey albums that I am interested in finding on vinyl is Infinity (a really good copy) and Next (which is pre-Perry).

Trial by Fire was a great return. I began seriously listening to Journey with that album, so it has a special place for me. My vote goes to it.

It's a very strong album, with phenomenal production. "One More", "When You Love a Woman", "Can't Tame the Lion", and "Trial by Fire" are some of the best songs the band has ever done. "Easy to Fall" is very reminiscent of the Gregg Rolie days!

I guess I should choose Infinity (and its Trans Am hood artwork) , because both Rollie & Dunbar are in the band, but I still can't stand the band's devolution from progy JR/F to Corporate AOR

I'll take Ainsley over SS any day of the week. Wink
I loathed Journey in the 80's mainly because of Perry's atrocious vocals.Pinch

Though the original Journey line-up never scored big sales, Rollie's vocals were great (especially that he wasn't singing in every track) and so was the band's wailing & sonics in the debut and to a lesser extent, LitF.

OK, they had to give in to Columbia when they forced SP in the band (or lose the recording contract).
TBH, I wonder often how Journey would've fared had they told CBS to screw off and signed to Arista (the label giving second chances to most US bands) to keep its original aim.

Disagree about the debut. It's fantastic from A to Z.
However with their second, they seemed short on ideas, and by Next, only two tracks are worth it.

I really wish there was a legit double live album dating from 75.

I always gave Journey props for their musicianship but was never a fan of their music.
