Vicariously Feeling Like A Character While Watchin

You know, when you're watching a movie, and when something bad happens to the main character, YOU feel it; almost as if it was happening to you. Sometimes you have to think, "This is not happening to me", but then you can get into movies where there's a scene or story that reminds you of what you're going through, or have gone through.


It doesn't have to be the protagonist, but it might be just as interesting if you can name a support actor who you're "in".

Um, I have to admit that happens to Jean and me whenever we see a movie in which a woman is being extremely humiliated by another woman, especially if there is some sexual or perhaps even BDSM connotation.

Thanks for the reply.. I probably had more examples a while ago, but wanted to see if the thread got steam first before I typed out a bunch of stuff.

I was talking to someone less than an hour ago (on a movie forum) about "La Strada", and probably with subsequent viewings, I thought and probably inserted myself in the role of Anthony Quinn, but curious how Gelsomina would have reacted to a nicer fella. Maybe the story wouldn't be as good, but it was just more of my imagination, and not any editorial on what is my 2nd favorite movie. I'm editing right now on my feet, changing a few details. Instead of a circus, it would be more music-oriented, since I am a musician. Even she played the horn and drum. Maybe Masina would more of a "Cabiria" type.. A woman who wasn't going to take sh*t, but who did have vulnerability. Both characters were lovable, and I had empathy for both of them.

I do this with books, too. I'm reading an interesting biography, "Your Mother Is Not A Virgin" by John Barbour, who calls himself the Godfather of Reality TV, who also did stand-up comedy, had a few decent records, had a few shows interviewing people. I love a great interview and consider it a separate art form. 

I've probably posted them before, but I'm very interested in social experiments, and have spent a lot of time testing them out. Before Yahoo comment boards were closed, I would test them out. I would post a (usually political) comment I completely agreed with. Then I'd do the same on another account, this time with a beautiful blonde on the avatar, and even though my hypothesis was correct, it was still interested.

Even more interesting was loading the sample. I could take two of the same exact comment, and use a handful of accounts to give one comment all a thumbs up.. I'd wait a bit, and would see the trend continue. I'd then post the same exact comment, but with all thumbs-down, and the trend would continue with maybe a few deviations. And then entire other "experiments" after commenting.. Marxist dialectics, "As you all know".. or the conformist sh*t that influences people subconsciously. Sometimes I'd use sex to influence an outcome. "Only an incel would agree with that!" (gosh, I hate that word, incel).

And a million more experiments in my head I can daydream with.. "There'll Be No Clown Tonight.... except me" :)

the thing with Friede and me when we see scenes like she described is more than just feeling it. it is us wanting to be in the situation that humiliated woman is in, to be humiliated or treated badly like her or even worse. yes, I know this is kinky, and it is a bit strange that we both swing the same way. usually one of a couple swings one way and the other the other way. it makes things a little difficult for us
