Nektar “...Sounds Like Swiss” Live in Switzerland 1973 CD/DVD Available October 1, 2021 Unearthed audio and video recordings from legendary progressive rock band Nektar captured live in Switzerland, 1973. Includes an hour-long concert videotaped for Swiss TV's Kaléidospop, unseen since its original broadcast. The two CDs include the audio portion of the TV show as well as a complete show soundboard audio recording from the Pavilion des Sports in Lausanne, Switzerland in May 1973. Housed in a beautiful 4 panel digipak, this CD/DVD set is an epic, historical document showcasing the bands early innovative and pioneering sound that remains as vital and influential as ever. Booklet includes liner notes by bassist and founding members Derek “Mo” Moore and Mick Brockett. The band’s line up for these legendary performances in fact features all five original members - the late Roye Allbrighton on guitar and vocals, Derek “Mo” Moore on bass and vocals, Allan “Taff” Freeman on organ and vocals, and Ron Howden on drums and percussion in addition to Mick Brockett handling the visual tapestry that was such a key component of the “Music and Light Theatre” that the band was presenting at the very height of progressive rocks main sequence during the mid-70’s. “I have known of its existence since we did this concert in 1973 and have never been able to find it. To have this unearthed after all these years is fantastic and takes me immediately back to that time. It was great to be allowed to contribute what was needed to bring this about. Roger Houdaille of ‘Think Like a Key’ did a great job in putting this together” - Derek “Mo” Moore To pre-order: https://tlak.rocks/bb116 See Nektar on tour! Hi,
PP ... I have to recheck, but the order of the pictures is not correct as far as I can remember. We got ATITO in late 1972, and just a bit later their 1st album, and then we could not find/get the one that was going on around Europe ... Sounds Like This. We were told that it was a live studio album not really a regular album by the folks at the old Moby Disk in Van Nuys. ATITO sold really well, it seems as an import, and then the Americans released RTF. A bit after this you get their big double live album that has the material that was released in DTE which is a bit strange since some of the material that ended up on Recycled was being done in concert. For example, Marvelous Moses had been in the shows for some time, but they were taken out of the first live album to ensure sales of the new album? If I am not mistaken, for the longest time, the Live albums were only available as an import, specially the earlier one. By 1977, it seems that the albums were moving fairly well, and more got released. SLT is probably better appreciated if heard first, but the two very long pieces are fantastic and well known, by their fans. ADITLOAP is particularly well loved, and it is about Jimi, I have been told. And there was no doubt that Jimi was one of Roye's greatest inspirations. it should also be understood and mentioned that SLT is really what the band sounded like ON STAGE ... and if there was one band that was really clean about their material on and off the stage, this band was one of the best. But the great thing about Nektar, was that Roye burned himself up singing everything at the same time he ripped up the shows with the guitar, and you just knew that eventually it was going to take its toll. It was an incredible amount of energy to be mustered each and every night to do the shows, but he never quit.

^ It would have been better in my view if the 5 Essential Nektar albums had included their debut "Journey to the Centre of the Eye" album in the box set instead of "Recycled"

Hi, RECYCLED makes sense in the continuity of the band, but as a "historical" detail of the band, I think that its inclusion is a bit strange and weird. It is a fantastic album, but by that time, I think that it was about taking the Nektar show to its final extreme, and the non-stop thing in that album made it really good, but for me, it was sad and the end. When you hear the last song, you know that the conceptual nature of Nektar is over and that the high level assault was also done, as Roye probably was already showing signs of exhaustion. DTE, as I mentioned had material that was already used in concert many time, and thus, there was nothing new in it, and it made it look like the band was still alive, when everyone knew that it was having some issues with so much touring. Apparently a huge tour with GOLDEN EARRING of something like over 100 gigs within one year, must have taken the toll, and I don't think the band ever really recovered. And neither did Golden Earring! Roye attempted to keep things going, but he took some time off, and when you see him at one of those American Fests (not even sure which now!), he sounded fine, but you had the feeling that it was a little too much for him, but he endured it, and did so beautifully, a far cry from the energetic and over the top quality of the early days, but you could see the emotion and the feeling, and how much he really wanted to let it fly, but likely couldn't. It's still, one of the most loved bands in my collection. I got to meet them and had a grand time, on their first tour show at the Santa Monica Civic on their first tour when they came with their "Light Theater" which was really good, but already an old throw back to the late SF stuff ... and the light shows were already over done some, but it was wonderful to see it on 4 sides (left, right, behind and above) which made the show better and stronger, although from a detached point of view a lot of the light show really did not exactly have anything to do with the music. No band, has ever been able to do this right at all since ... forever! It's all too structured to the "star" and the "nothing" in the lights, to make it look far out and not exactly give the music the accent and beauty it would deserve. Somewhere else on this board a have a huge article on light shows ... see if you can find it. I can't.

Hi, If I had not been "there" and had their albums and then helped cement their status, a millimeter or so, I would think that album is worth while. However, I would still listen to it in order, because hearing RECYCLED first, is not a good way to see the sequence and design of their shows and the showcase of their abilities. Just Remember that DTE is material that was around for a few years, even in concert, and is not quite a "new" material album for the band. I think the band by that time was already coming down and exhausted from touring and not taking time off, and the record company wanted to take advantage of the material they already had. The only odd one for me, was their version of "Marvelous Moses" on Recycled, which was nice, but not half as good as the original that they did in concert, and so far, I have yet to hear any of these recordings of that piece, and it was also much longer, if I remember correctly almost 15 minutes, and on par with "Preacher" and "Odyssey" from SLT. This is my take, and Mo might say something about this that could be different, as he seems to be the one person that remembers a lot of these old shows, and their first time in LA. Their show at the Santa Monica Civic should have been put to disk/vinyl, not that it was as good or better than the other Live albums, but it would show how much of the later material was already on their shows even if ATITO and RTF were the majority of the show, but only 75% if I remember it right. That leaves a whole almost 30 plus minutes of material that we don't know what it was. At least I didn't.
