Butler’s Experiment also has

an album out called, Torchlight Splinters, released 2020 (also on Spotify, Amazon, I-Tunes).

The five piece band, Garry Daniel (guitar), Steve Butler (vocals), Eric Poytner (keyboards), Julz Smith (bass), Chris Struzik (drums), are drawn towards a style of music that is hard to define but is definitely influenced by progressive rock, new-wave, post-punk, neo-prog, hard-rock. They are proud to hail from Scotland and have been covered on radio shows such as Fife’s mighty, Kiss That Prog.

Butler’s Experiment formed in 2017 formed from musicians that wanted to play a more challenging style of rock that could be catchy as well. Making the album was definitely a highlight for the band and was really prepared by constant gigging around Glasgow. Their first album, Torchlight Splinters was recorded at the well known Glasgow studio, La Chunky and ably produced by Johnny Smillie. When they were playing in Glasgow, people started to notice that we were influenced by many styles of music and have been following them every since. They have changed their line-up many times over the years but now the definitive version of Butler’s Experiment has been formed.

Eddie McFadden, presenter of Kiss That Prog radio show, made Torchlight Splinters his featured album of the month said this about the debut album: “Just finishing my second listen to the CD. Seriously impressed. Can’t believe this is a debut album…”

Phonic FM: “A five piece who are certainly taking their cue from some of the 1970’s prog bands have managed to produce something that sounds relatively contemporary…it may be the most original album you might listen to this year.”

Quote from Steve Butler: “If you hear the term ‘Prog Rock’ and start imagining a pasty looking bloke forlornly looking over a castle battlement in a big white shirt, singing something about how his dinner plans might be influenced by the approaching Dragon, it is time to think again.”
