I just love wild violin, and all of these violinists can go really wild. I am certain I forgot a lot, so please feel free to name them. these were just the first that came to my mind. many of them are actually multi-instrumentalists

I would have voted for "Violinski" of ELO if he'd been on the list.

I think I prefer Eddie Jobson. Still, he isn't only a violinist. He is a great keyboardist too. So, he is a very complete musician. Unfortunately, he is one of the most underrated prog musicians. So, Jobson is to me. He's one of my favourite prog artsits, really.

How could I forget Darryl Way of Curved Air and Wolf!? I'll change my vote from "Violinski" to Darryl Way.

Liesbeth Lambrecht (Aranis) and Karolina Mlodecka (Forgas Band Phenomena) are up there but it has to be Carla Kihlstedt (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Rabbit Rabbit, Tin Hat, Book Of Knots, Cosa Brava)

Ponty, followed by Jobson and Steinhardt. There are plenty of fine players in the Prog Folk category, although we might technically call them fiddlers.

I am still quite blown away by L. Shankar--and not just by his ten-stringed, double neck electric violin, but by the skill he exhibited even before he started playing that monster. I've also been quite enamored of the work done by Shankar's older brother, Lakshminarayana Subramanian--especially when working with Usted Ali Akbar Khan.
Both Lakshminarayanan brothers have been at the fore front of the whole East-West fusion, each collaborating with an incredibly impressive list of Western artists, including, but not limited to John Handy, Stéphane Grappelli, Larry Coryell, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussein, Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, Yehudi Mehunin, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Ruggiero Ricci, Joe Sample, Stanley Clarke, Chick Corea, George Harrison, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Phil Collins, Sting, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Steve Vai, Ginger Baker, and Jean-Luc Ponty. |

all masters but I`ll go with Robby Steinhardt (Kansas) I'm not saying he's technical the best but his music moves me more than the others.

I'll go with Darryl Way: Curved Air, Pierre Moerlen's Gong, and one of my favorites from Tull....
