Pat's new album is killer. One of my 2020 favorites. For over 40 years he's shared a lot of great music. Always improving and perfecting his talents. His tone is unmistakable.

I'm not a Metheny fan yet, but I'm ready and willing to be converted. Smile

I had a feeling Pat Metheny was no longer with us, so it's good to know he's alive and well and still recording new albums. Thumbs Up

^Neglected on PA, but not in the jazz world. Did you listen to any of it?

I saw him on the orchestrion tour ten years ago or whenever it was. I went with my dad and his wife. The weird thing is I enjoyed it more than they did. They thought Pat had gone crazy with his orchestrion thing. LOL

^Nothing weird about good taste in music. "Your dad's wife"? Haha. Pat always plays a good show.

Not yet. I've been busy for most of the evening writing a tribute thread to Jim Morrison & The Doors, and having just posted it, it's time for me to get some well-earned rest at well past midnight here. Smile

As in my stepmother but I never lived with her so it's weird for me to think of her that way. There I go using the "weird" word again. WinkLOL

Anyway, I'm not an expert on his music and I don't even think I currently own anything but have borrowed some stuff from the library by him and I usually enjoy it.

Love Metheny's stuff, both PMG and solo. Haven't listened to the new album yet but am looking forward to when I do.
I use they/them pronouns (feel free to ask me about this!)

Check out my music on my bandcamp!

I love Pat Metheny and the PMG; As falls Wichita, so falls Wichita falls is one of my all time favourite albums- i heard it first (except of the title track) on Tommy Vance Friday Night Rock Show back around 1980 and was transfixed.. After that 'Travels' is my favourite but i dont think ive heard an lp by him i didnt like. Somewhere i picked up a white label lp of a US radio show from about 1976 which is just fantastic!

I've dabbled in Pat Metheny.  I've got five albums from him.  I haven't heard his latest though...this sounds like a good endorsement to check it out.

Another track from Pat's new album. Superb composer and musician. Keep the comments coming.

HUGE fan--been listening to him since his early days with Gary Burton, Jaco Pastorius, Joni Mitchell and ECM. Seen him in concert several times in the 1980s and 1990s.

Favorite albums (in order):

Secret Stories
Beyond the Missouri Sky (with Charlie Haden)
Still Life (Talking) (with Group)
Imaginary Day (with Group)
As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls (with Lyle Mays and Nana Vasconcelos)
The Way Up
Offramp (with Group)
Different Trains (with Steve Reich)
Letter from Home (with Group)
OST to The Falcon and the Snowman
Shadows and Light (concert footage with Joni Mitchell and Jaco Pastorius)
New Chautauqua (solo guitar)

The core "Group" lineup of Lyle Mays (keys), Steve Rodby (bass), and Paul Wertico (drums) is, in my humble opinion, the greatest lineup of jazz-rock-fusion musicians ever gathered together.

Hard to argue with that.

For fusion trios - Holdsworth, Johnson and Wackerman take honors for the greatest lineup.

Definitely a fan, I saw him in the 1980s and his stage show was one of the best I'd ever seen.  Thanks for the new music!

I think the real question is, is anyone not a Metheny fan here?

Not much discussion about Pat here. That's why I started this thread.
