lets have a definitive list of bands who are NOT prog !!
its getting out of hand who we seem to be squeezing in -lets have people name bands who ain't prog,ARE there any ????  first person to name a band who they say are NOT prog that someone demonstrates IS prog,loses

Well...Tony Orlando and Dawn had some progressive tendencies with 'Tie that yellow ribbon..' so maybe they SHOULD be added...
On the other hand....Yes and ELP sound nothing like 'Primus' and they obviously ARE prog...
Then..
OK, I vote for 'The Carpenters' , DOH....they covered 'Calling occupant of interplanetary craft' a VERY proggy song by Klaatu, so they are out....hummm
Hows about 'Wham!' ...though, I have my reservations about 'Club tropicana', the bass playing was awfully good on that number..maybe they should be on here?
'Venom'?? OOhh no, that 20+ min epic of death metal 'At war with satan' makes them total prog..
Right, will go with 'Chas and Dave'...'Gertcha' was not prog in any way. Thats my choice.

QUEEN ARE NOT PROG!
They never used synthesizers, the instrument another topic deemed "almost necessary" to prog bands; when they did use them, it was to record an awful DANCE album!
Also, no prog band (to my knowledge) released a posthumous album 4 years after the death of the singer...
And, last but not least, remember that Brian May got to play on a single with boyband 5IVE (We Will Rot You!)... What about Steve Hackett soloing on next BLUE album?

Deep Purple had prog albums like Concerto and April.
Queen had some prog songs, especially on their early albums.

On the American Idiot CD, Green Day included two 9+ minutes epic, with multiple parts, choruses and tempo changes!
Plus, the whole album is a CONCEPT!

Can't go wrong with The Dead......they are so bloody underrated by the prog community..my fave band are Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd and the Dead
Also, important for all you stereotypers out there, I have never smoked a cigarette of ANY kind in my life or taken any drug.......well, except caffeine in ludicrous doses..

They're nothing like prog, but I tought I got some good point to make them "sound" prog... It's just a game!
