Well, another Genesis... Wink

I'm surprised it hasn't been suggested before. Or has it?

According to Discogs: West Coast psychedelic quintet that broke up in 1968.

Only one album... but it's pretty good IMO.

Yes, I know, there will be some confusion with another little prog band... And the album title ("In the Beginning") won't help either!

So... what do you think?

From Genesis to Revelation was released by a nameless band because of this Genesis. The symphonic band we all know started to use this name after this Genesis had disbanded.

They've been evaluated and rejected in Heavy Prog Team about 10 years before. Unhappy

well, I'm quite sure the music is the same it was 10 years before Wink
I fully second the decision to reject them

well made contemporary blend of Folk, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Rock in the vein of Keef Hartley Band, Clark Hutchinson, though not progressive rock

^ Maybe one should listen to the longer track on the LP before taking a decision...

Here is "World Without You" (16:14).

Also found this info on Amazon (so I guess we have to double-check) :

This is not unknown album by British prog-rockers, and there is no Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins on it, - it's just a great album by forgotten band from California. An absolutely amazing mix of acid, hard rock, folk with prog tendencies, featuring heavy enough "Angeline", 16-minutes long "World Without You" and beautiful version of Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne". Good guitars, flute, rich orchestration and flawless male/female vocal harmonies - Sue Richman reminds Grace Slick, but more calm, self-confident, less neurotic, and singing without effort. I would say that under different circumstances "Genesis" should be as big as "Jefferson", and maybe bigger...
The roots of "Genesis" goes deep into the 60s - it's founder, Jack Ttanna (vocals, rhythm) was with legendary "Sons of Adam", which showcased Randy Holden (of Blue Cheer fame, listen to "Sons" on Early Works 1964-1966) and Michael Stuart (of "Love"). Kent Henry (lead guitarist of "Genesis") later on joined Steppenwolf. By the end of the 60s the band relocated to Los Angeles, and in 1969 recorded 8-track debut album for "Mercury" - a true gem of mature psychedelia.

To me this album sounds much more proto-prog than for example UK Kaleidoscope, thatīs in PA. But I guess there are not much willing to add more artists in proto-prog in PA? Also, music just really donīt sound the same to different persons.

Anyway, itīs not most important thing if this Genesis never made itīs way into PA. More I am pissed really great artists like the Red Krayola and Pere Ubu have never made it. Then there are lots of new artists, really unknown added in PA, where are only one rating, many even not that. Whatīs the sense of it?

All the way the thing which artist make itīs way to PA and which not seems to me just arbitrary.

Just my own opinion: it's a good album but closer to Grateful Dead than to prog. At least Proto may be an option, but I don't think it's fully prog.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I think I suggested Red Krayola about 12 years ago, more or less. But I don't question the team's decisions unless I have evidences or new material to proivde them with.

Itīs not long time I suggested it again, but answer was no and only argument was that it has rejected before. Maybe I would understand better, if there had been also some other arguments. If I remembered right, Krayola would earlier suggested into psychedelic/space rock, although it absolutely should be in RIO/Avant. Also, if there have been other arguments to my suggestions it has always been "I donīt hear prog in this". I think that argument is very subjective as we all know here are PA members, who donīt think for example Pink Floyd or Jethro Tull progbands. And there are bands like "Thinking Fellers Union Local 282" and "U.S. Maple" in RIO/Avant that also have big connections into postpunk (what I remembered connection to postpunk is the cause not to add some band into PA) already in PA.

Donīt know has anyone suggested Pere Ubu, but hard to believe they will be accepted.

But I guess I just have to swallow my annoy and make reviews from artists that already are in PA.
