Undoubtedly, THE YES ALBUM that's been the BIG GENERATOR of the most controversy over the years is TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS. YES, it's a long double album with four long YESSONGS which was treated like a rotten TORMATO by the music press, but if you OPEN YOUR EYES, you'll gain THE KEYS TO ASCENSION and realise what a classic album this is. The album came CLOSE TO THE EDGE of splitting the band up, when there was a MAGNIFICATION of tensions within the group with so many FRAGILE egos at stake. In the ensuing DRAMA, TIME AND A WORD has it that Rick Wakeman threatened to walk out during the recording of the album. The album climbed THE LADDER of success though, topping the UK album charts for two weeks. Rick Wakeman left the band and didn't appear on the following RELAYER album. There was TALK of a re-UNION, but HEAVEN & EARTH had to be moved to persuade Rick to return for the GOING FOR THE ONE album in 1977. The best-selling YES album of all, released in 1983, was famously named after its catalogue number, 90125. It's time for another Top 5 poll before I FLY FROM HERE.
This time it's the turn of YES after the success of my Top 5 Pink Floyd and King Crimson song polls. Simply list your Top 5 YESSONGS in order of preference below and then I'll assign points to your listings as follows:-
1st song - 6 points 2nd song - 4 points 3rd song - 3 points 4th song - 2 points 5th song - 1 point Here are my Top 5 YESSONGS to open the poll with:- 1. Awaken (6 points) 2. And You and I (4 points) 3. Ritual (3 points) 4. Starship Trooper (2 points) 5. Heart of the Sunrise (1 point) Edited by Psychedelic Paul - July 02 2020 at 04:01 |

I wasn't sure what order to place the songs in either, particularly when it came to Close to the Edge, but in the end I decided to leave it out of my Top 5 altogether as CTTE is probably going to win the poll anyway, even without my help.

I know what you mean. Between You and I it's a constant Roundabout of Perpetual Change in deciding my YES Top 5 which can take me to the Gates of Delirium if I give it too much thought.

In that case, I'll give your song selections three points each, seeing as they're in no particular order.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.
