Been listening to a lot of jazz lately and I played Cornbread by Lee Morgan. He is by far my favorite trumpet player and the music he writes grooves. He has so many stellar releases. Any other fans of Lee?

I just ordered it from BlueNote records, the TonePoet version and am eagerly awaiting its arrival.
These issues are amazing, I have several of them, trying to buy a couple a month.

They are all mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, with no adjustments that Rudy Van Gelder did in the original issues. He mastered because back in the 50s turntables and cartridges were really not very good, so he adjusted for this by rolling the low end and bumping the high end.
Today Kevin Gray is not doing that as electronics are much better, no compression and he is letting all the low end come thru from what is on the master tapes. The CD issues were never looked upon as any good, nor the digital versions of late.
There was no multi-track going on during these recordings back then so everything was straight to mono or 2-track stereo, its about as close to studio recording as you can get and these vinyl issues are mastered to exude all that.....They are simply brilliant!!

Over on the Steve Hoffman forums there are several threads that discuss these reissues, the original thread there is now over 350 pages long.

Makes me want to fix my B&O turntable. Bet it sounds stellar. Enjoy.
